it's been driving me nuts trying to think of this one movie and like a blinding flash, it came to me on the way home tonight.

Corvette Summer

this was one of the most fun car movies I can remember as a kid... it's hard to picture Luke Skywalker as a Vette pilot, but it was a fun movie, good chases
You can catch it on TCM or AMC every now and again.

Oh, I remember this movie...its also the only movie outside of Star Wars where Mark Hamill acts somewhat decently.

It's weird, before I ever saw that movie, about 15 years ago someone near Boston was selling the strangely modded Vette from the movie in the want ads here...it's the one where his car gets stolen right?

Ronin was incredible. The first chase was good, but they get better. I can't believe that the Transporter hasn't been mentioned. The beginning scene was amazing.

It's in the DB (Car chase database)

Ah yes... I called it a 320i in that gallery... then I saw it had 4 doors!

It must have been a really early model, having 4 lug wheels.

I'm pretty good with my bimmers, have 7

I like Bimmers too. Didn't someone post this car in the abandoned car thread and call it a Volvo? I was going to chime in but sat that one out...

An obscure movie called "The Seven Ups" had a really good car chase... big old early 70's Pontiac boat going mano-y-mano versus a similiar vintage Pontiac Ventura (nova clone)

Samurai

Holy shit I forgot about this movie! I saw this when I was little, and the end of the chase scared the hell out of me. I never knew what the name of the movie was. That car chase is SUPERB, long and realistic. The same people who helped bring the chases in Bullitt and French Connection made this one. I hear the movie is pretty good as well.

the car chase was very realistic, i mean it looked like they were tearassing through a borough at warp speed, none of that staged, fake look to it. Also, if there was a movie that needed a remake, i think that this one or the french connection were it.

Here is the chase, I'm going to look for the DVD today. I recommend NOT watching this if you don't want to spoil it for yourself.

The 73 Bonneville is pretty cool, funny to see how fast cars of that size could travel

if you listen to the Venturas' engine, that's the sound of the Mustang from Bullit. You know the car is an automatic and the sound guys only slipped a couple of times when you hear it double-clutch to another gear... Even the sound of the suspension bottoming on a couple of 'jumps' was taken from Bullit.

this is shit that only car AND movie geeks would pick out. Seriously, those old early 70's cars were fucking battering rams.

Yeah I watched this with my friend and we both noticed the noises didn't really match and were similar to Bullitt. In a strange way though, the sounds make it cooler. I suppose you can use your imagination and pretend they sound that way because they have no cats on them...

The same driver, Bill Hickman, coordinated the stunts for Bullit, French Connection, and this movie. I think he stars in all three of them as well. I forget what he plays in this movie, but in Bullitt he drove the Charger, and in TFC he was that asshole FBI guy who ends up getting shot.

I now have this on DVD by the way...Best Buy had it for 10 bucks.

Interesting stuff. I don't think I'd heard of this one before. Seems like it's time to start filling in my collection of car-guy movies.

Has Condorman been mentioned yet?

Bill Hickman is the driver of the black Bonneville as well, just a little heavier, better glasses and longer hair. I'm almost positive that's who is driving the bonneville...

Yea thats Hickman alright. I was always wondering if the sounds from bullitt were also used in that movie, now i know. i didnt think a ventura with what was probably a 350 under the hood would sound that good .

On a side note, the engine sounds weren't even recorded from a mustang, its actually a ford gt 40 racecar which was recorded to be used in bullitt.

HAHA, I was thinking that but he didn't look the same as only like 2 years before in TFC, which I watched a few days ago...

I forget what movie I was watching recently...but they had a late 1990 model Chevy sedan of some sort (I couldn't tell, I think the cinematographer was hiding the car's make on purpose) but for one thing, they CLEARLY had a sound of a carburated engine and a really bad hack job of making the sound of a locomotive air brake system sounding like automotive disc brakes.
