What part of the E-Test caused your car to light on fire? Can you say conincidence.

Your 80's cadilac MAY have polluted more then those big gas guzzling SUVs because it had less emissions equipment, older injection technology, more wear and therefore possibly more oil leakage into the engine.

No it passed the emissions test, but like two weeks later I'm driving down about 10 minutes minutes from my house and all my dashboard lights fire up, then i see smoke and as I stopped there was a fire.

I was so pissed. I needed that car from job at the time and I just spent $700 trying to pass the damn thing. I wish that it died before!

Yeah that sucks, I know what it is like to lose money. I had purchased a 1992 Honda Accord back in 1999. I was buying it AS-IS because it needed some brake work that I could do myself. The only condition I put on the sale of the car was that it passed an emission test first. The seller met me there, we had the car tested, it passed, I paid him and drove away with the car. Half an hour later the engine blew, it threw a rod. Nothing I could do about it, just a fucked-up coincidence.

You could always beat the sh!t out of the seller, if only just for the principle of it all (ie: violence is justified if someone screws you over financially).

Bandi -- you must have an interesting life driving that much!

Well, I certainly get to see the countryside!

(Just for an example... in the past month, I've driven to and from Salem Missouri, Ottawa, Quebec City, Toronto about 20 times, London Ontario and Sudbury twice)

My car just failed it's E-Test. I need the MAS replaced, and that's not even a guarantee that will fix the problem.

Atomx took his car for an oil change, and now is coming home with a bill for over $400 since his breaks are fucked up.

So I have two freaking shitty cars that I am spending probably over $1000 to fucking get fixed.

URGH. I HATE CARS

you guys got fucked... there is NOTHING ON A CARS' BRAKE SYSTEM THAT SHOULD COST OVER $400 to fix.

Here in NY, there are two different inspection criteria. New York City/Long Island and then the rest of the state. Just a couple of years ago, everything went computerized so the state could keep track of who was getting inspections. Made faking and selling 'hot' inspection stickers harder to do. (damn near IMPOSSIBLE now). Anyways, OBDII cars have to be plugged in and checked for any warning lights. I went through hell with my 98 Cavalier because i had the DRL's and ABS disabled. Try explaining why the ABS doesn't work to a fuckhead that doesn't even have a 9th grade education... you mention rally racing and they look at you like 'well, hell, Merle, that ain't NASCAR. uh huh huh huh... that ain't racin'.'
makes you want to smash their teeth out with a set of bolt cutters.

Now with my new car, they don't even plug it in to the machine, not until it is one model year old.

We are actually selling these shit bag cars and getting new ones.

Atomx is getting a 2007 Pontiac Wave

And I'm getting a 2003 Saturn Vue (Family vehicle)

Both have great warranties on them, so we don't have to pay any more money out of pocket to fix these things.

Pontiac Wave?

Either way, it's great to have a new car that has a warranty. It feels good knowing that when something breaks, you can just pick up the phone, dial the dealer and scream "FIX IT! FIX IT FIXITFIXITFIXIT!!!"

Exactly.. Oh, and yes the Aveo is pretty much the same (same cost also) but Atomx liked the Pontiac logo on the wave better than the Chevy logo on the Aveo.

After listing my car recently,I've decided to keep it. I was dreading having to take it for an e-test,I highly doubt it would pass.Turns out though that I don't have to this year, would have cost me even more to get it up to par.

Maybe when you're "waving" down a tow truck. A concept invented and perfected by Ford.

I had to take my XJ to pass, well, my wheelin' XJ.

hollow cat
Mustang 19lb injectors
no EGR or any emissions control stuff
480,000km on the original 4.0L

It barely passed, but it passed nonetheless. Now this thing was a major pos, yet my mother's 1996 Dodge Avenger with a 2.2L 4popper failed horribly. Ive acctually never had a Jeep that didn't pass emissions come to think of it. Well, one, but it went from being a 1994 XJ to being a 1987 XJ

Back in 1997 my mother took her 1989 Dodge Caravan for the Oregon emissions check. She failed because there was a bad EGR valve. Easy fix.

Oregon's vehicle emissions check is pretty easy. You only need to get it checked if you live in the Portland Metro Area and they only check for emissions-related equipment.
