I just got an awesome deal last night. I came across 5 grams of mushrooms for just.... $20! And they were awesome! Best I've had in a long time!

Me: I like Gary, I think its nice, aside from the lack of eats on a Sunday afternoon.
Leo2: Yeah, its really nice...until we find three dead strangers in an...abandoned...thing.

I haven't had them in so long. Longer even than it's been since I dropped acid. Oh well I'll probably get some this weekend - by which I mean LSD, though the two are related (I keep saying that and shit keeps coming up ).

Yeah they're REALLY easy to grow. Don't waste money on those "grow-kits" either.

http://www.shroomery.org/

Go to the cultivation section . . . try the PF-TEK first since it's by far the easiest, but after that you can move onto all sorts of things.

Grow mushrooms from a kit? A mushroom kit?

Why not up-end the bag you got them in into a nice warm, moist pile of compost/soil/shit and let them do their thing? All those nice spores that shook loose from the caps make for some pretty nice results.

I dunno man. I had a friend who grew them in his bedroom, they aren't as easy to grow as that.

Yes but it's way more complicated than that if you're growing your own without real cows. If you just sprinkled some spores on cow-shit, whatever mycelium grows is going to be contaminated by other molds. You have to keep all of your equipment sterile to make sure no spores from other molds will contam your growth medium. A pressure cooker is usually used for an improvised autoclave.

Of course you CAN grow on cow shit . . . you grow the mycelium in grain jars though for a few generations to create a good amount of spawn, then use that to colonize the cow shit (which must be pasteurized at 170F first), then when the mycelium pokes through the top you have to add a casing layer, and then fruit them.

Dude...they're fucking zooms. They grow on shit. They grow in soil. They'll grow in a warm running shoe if you leave the show alone long enough.

Stop reading all the fucking time. Go out and play with some kids your own age.

I actually didn't read that until my friend showed me his grow He had these little PF TEK jars (about six) and I asked him how to do it and he gave me a book. The reason you can't simply "plant" them in cow-shit/dirt is that things happen in the cow's digestive system which wipe out most other molds, and also leave necessary bacteria in; I bet if you found a fresh, wet cow turd fresh from the cow's bum you could grow them easily. But even then your yields aren't too impressive. The best way is to culture the hyphae on agar plates (or a liquid culture) and isolate a good, vigorous, ribomorphic (ugh I hope that's the right word) strain.

Yes I'm a fuckin' geek

Urrrrgh 40 minutes until I can buy me pot . . . hehe a half an ounce this is gonna be a good weekend.

Sounds like a Hell of a lot of work.

Around here, they do grow on cow shit, early in the morning in the Spring and Fall. Easy to pick, there just aren't a whole lot of them. Me, I'm just waiting for the weather to warm up.

I have changed my personal exploring ethics code. From now on it will be: "Take only aimed shots, leave only hobo corpses." Copper scrappers, meth heads and homeless beware. The Jonsered cometh among you, bringing fear and dread.

They pop up almost right before your eyes in many many near-by areas. Seriously.

Damn you; you're so lucky to live up north and be able to pick Liberty Caps willy-nilly. Psilocybe semilanceata only grows up where you live. At least that's what I assume you're talking about. There are of course dozens of psychoactive species but P. semilanceata and P. cubensis are the only kinds that I know can be found pretty easily with little hunting. P. cubensis is the kind that grows on cow-shit in humid areas, especially Mexico, Georgia, and Florida:

P. semilanceata grow in fields in cooler climates:

Then there's P. caerulescens, which grows wild 'round here during the spring; you can find hundreds of them in this one very hidden field and only two people (myself included) know its location. 'Fraid I can't find any pictures of it since it's so rare, but they're EXTREMELY potent and the entire mushroom pretty much turns blue.

How many do ya have to eat anyway? Just curious (/me is still trying to guess the species what with the nerdiness and all).

No idea. Haven't taken zooms in years, but I will as soon as Toodles McJunior spends a weekend with his grandparents, and I can take some quality time to get High and Enjoy.
