| | | Posted by Wiccan No,not say nothing, necessarily. I am letting the school know what happened, but they won't be able to do much because the kid was already expelled that day,she just waited around for Steph, slightly off the school grounds.
| If the attacker had been expelled, then the school (conveniently) finds itself out of the loop to a point. Perhaps it's a matter of the school administration (e.g. The Principal) notifying the police: this kid is violent/has a grudge against etc. etc. Maybe that's nieve. I really don't know. I have my own connection (albeit peripherally) with some pretty whack kids...like WHACK...long history of criminal activity/behaviour, often violent/sexual offenders and many who have absolutely zero chance of a reasonable future. Kids, mind you. 14, 15 years old. And then there's the hard ass who led the charge in murdering Reena Virk. Total recidivist. I'm glad she'll be out of circulation for a long time. I have a special place in Hell for these kinds of immoral, violent bullies. Which is why I say that if there was a weapon involved, and someone was attacked with that weapon, the police need to be notified. It was a violent criminal act that, left unchallanged, will only lead to an escalation on the part of the attacker. Fuck the 'rat' label. Someone's life may depend on it. I totally appreciate your point of view, and hopefully by the time your little guy hits high school, things will change. But in the meantime, things are shitty like this, that's the way it is. I don't like it either.
| And I appreciate yours. I'm certain things will change by the time my son hits high school. Of that, I am certain. It's been 23+ years since I was there, and it wasn't all that great then. Where will it be in another 10 years?

| | | Posted by Nvr2loud There is also a flipside, it this girl gets away with (legally anyway) attacking your daughter, the other kids will she your daughter as an easy target, she has no courage in their eyes. I haven't been out of school very long, I remember the fear and the anxiety.
The other option is the beat the snot out of that girl, but that may backfire and escalate things again. You are in a tough position, your daughter is in a worse position, good luck.
| Sure...there's always that, if you're interested in joining a long parade of violent offenders. Pick up the phone. Call the police. Then call the school board and tell them that one of their students attacked your daughter with a fucking knife. This kid is relying on your reluctance to notify authorities to extend her bullying into YOUR HOME AND FAMILY LIFE. Are you seriously going to let a kid push you around in your own home? Are you honestly going to stand by while her reputation as a thug solidify to the point that the community is afraid of her? Pick up the phone. Call the police.

.....The next time might be a lot worse I agree, call the police, you are foolish not to. I have a daughter (who is 2) and I wouldn't let ANYONE get away with hurting her... especially ending up in stitches! I would charge that bitch every way possible.
| I could see charging them if they were an adult, but not a young offender. The youth Justice act is pure bullshit. I knew back when I was 10 that I could kill someone and totally get away with it. I also knew that when I was 12 that I still could do what ever the fuck I wanted and nothing could really happen to me. Oh no go a detention centre? and still get released in time to do it all over again and still have no real repercussions. The only real repercussions that will come out of this is that her daughter will get labeled a rat, get harrassed everyday, get into more fights. Don't think if people know she called the police once (or someone else called them), that they really give a fuck. These are young offened with nothing to lose at all. They dont care or give a fuck anymore. I will also say that there is more to the story then what Wiccan knows. I bet her daughter is sugar coating it, but that is still besides the points. The best thing for her daughter to do is exactly what her daughter wants to do. Take her beating and go on with her life.

| Sorry Brother, but I think your response is total shit. The rat thing is another issue altogether. Whether or not we deal with a socially constructed label that further victimizes the victim isn't the point here. Dealing with a kid who held a knife to another kid's person AND drew blood in a violent attack is the issue, and whether or not we agree that the Youth Justice Act works or not, or will sufficiently address this specific incident is incidental to the initial threat. A violent assault leads to a charge, a court date, a sentence. It is likely that this person, the offender (alleged) will do some form of time. And let's not get into a debate as to whether or not incarceration is a good idea. There's a point to locking people up who don't play nice. Of course, incarcerating young offenders is often the best way to harden their resolve as criminals, and often serves as a good college for learning/apprenticing in other crimes. It also introduces them to other criminals. So that could well be a 'lose' situation.' Whatever. I'm still favouring the 'call the police' thing, if only to demonstrate to my family...and especially to my kids...that I take their safety and security very seriously, and that I will stop at nothing to protect them in whatever legal and responsible ways that I can. It will also come in handy if (when) this person reoffends, and the court/police need a substantiating witness. And then there's the school thing, and by reporting this attack to police, it signals to the school (Principal/board, etc.) that there is an issue of violence...not the fistfight shit, but the weapons shit...that needs to be addressed. My $.02.

| | | Thanks everyone for the insight,I kinda walked away from this thread because I didn't want to see people arguing over it,though everyone had very valid points. No,the girl didn't wind up getting arrested, though I still say I wish she was. What did happen was that EVERYONE heard about it and she's been treated like the bitch she is ever since. I don't know if I already mentioned it,but turns out she used to work where I do,and many, many people hate her for what she did. She's been chased away from a few parties, confronted on the street and is looking for me around every corner.Essentially, she's living in a perpetual state of fear which is exactly where I want her. Her not knowing when/what will happen (if anything, likely nothing)is perhaps an even better strategy than just giving it to her and getting it over with,in my opinion. My daughter saw her on the bus,got herself mad enough about what happened and offered a rematch, and of course the girl refused. So this girl's tough chick rep has been seriously tarnished and she's constantly taunted for going after a smaller girl. HARDLY a fair trade off,I agree wholeheartedly but my kid is able to walk the streets freely, with her head held high. And to her,at her age, that's what matters the most.
