Second hand smoke.

To begin with statistically we would see a trend among those constantly exposed tro second hand smoke. So, bartenders and waitresses. There exists no trend amongst these workers to suggest this. Not one study shows conclusively that breathing in second hand smoke causes cancer. The study released in 1993 by the EPA was what started this whole cockfoolery. In 1998 a federal court basically said it was bullshit. They failed in their procedure of their investigation and they used pseudo scientific procedure to get the results they wanted.

Many studies say that passive smoking in childhood has NO association to lung cancer risk. and for adults it's not statistically significant. and yet they still claim that is causes lung cancer in non smokers. Most any organization that claims that second hand smoke causes cancer related death get the information from the EPAs study that was thrown out in court.

also the 50,000 deaths per year is based on projected statistics based on heart disease and cancer related deaths. The issue has been grossly overstated. They say that your chances increase by 25%

Lung cancer deaths not exposed to second hand smoke 1:100,000 so 10 out of a million
nonsmokers EXPOSED- 1:80,000 and 12.5 ot of every million

It's insignificant. and is data thrown out by a federal court.

Lungs can recover from smoking a pack a day for YEARS. So why would one think that limited temporary exposure would be ohhh so harmful. It's self righteous bullshit.

I don't like smoke. It bothers me, but the fact is all of the second hand smoke shit is just that - shit. Freedom is a more important issue.

Second hand smoke causes my nostrils to become irritated, resulting in unpleasant sneezing fits. Prolonged exposure makes me wheezy. When my well being is impacted like this, I have the tendency to think it's not good for me. I don't know, maybe I'm just being whiny, and smokers should be allowed to feed their addiction wherever they want, regardless of who is around them.

A lot of people are allergic to a lot of things. Sure that sucks for you. It gives me headaches and often makes me sick to my stomach, but I don't like the music they play in stores, hell I often find that more offensive than smoke.

Bingo!

And you have every right to ask them not to smoke around you.

And they have every right to tell you to fuck off.

Well, I think people have the right to ask smokers to try to be more conscientious of the smoke. But I think smokers should be conscientious of the smoke without being asked. I used to smoke, but I would always move away if there were others who apparently weren't in the mood to have smoke around them.

Depends. If the property owner lets them, then hell yes they should be allowed to smoke. If not, then no they can get the fuck out of there and suck on coffin nails in the privacy of their own homes. That's all I'm saying about it.

I totally agree that the concern for second-hand smoke is for the most part, bullshit. Although, I still hate breathing that crap in.

At work, I don't mind so much when people smoke around me. Most of the time it doesn't bother me to have some smoke occasionally whiff by. Generally, people are considerate and refrain from smoking around me, but it sucks ass when I have to ride in the same vehicle as a chain-smoker and they are inconsiderate and don't crack open their windows. Then there's the idiots that blow it in your face without thinking that maybe it smells like ass to a non-smoker.

well, pretty much everywhere now in the us has gone smoke free. pretty shitty to businesses. the private business owner should be able to allow smoking on their property. The hell is this country coming to? And once again, for the record, I do not smoke, and i do not like smoke, but it's just not right.

When I smoke I try to make sure to blow the smoke up so it doesn't get in anybody's face. And if I know that can't be avoided I'll ask "mind if I smoke?". Most people say no, some politely say yes, and some get an attitude. Get an attitude and I'll move 5 feet away from you...but oh boy will I make sure it's going in your direction. If I'm polite enough to ask you, please answer back politely... I may smoke cigarettes but that doesn't make me a piece of trash (thats the meth's job)!

You can't do that here anymore, either. And despite being a smoker myself,I'm GLAD for it,I'd been burned enough times by the lit cigarettes of the fellow drunks on the dance floor.

Ontario just passed a law that a few other provinces and countries already had - no smoking in a vehicle with kids.

Then THIS happens. I mean, WTF?!?!?!?!?!? The gist of the story is that kiddies are legally allowed to import cigs into Canada.

So this means that with me being 18, I can go to New York, buy a pack and come back and they can't do shit about it?

Is there a law against possession of tobacco by a minor in Canada (I guess that's under 19)? What exactly do they do about it?

To my knowledge there is no law for possession.

The law is against selling it to minors. there's no law for possession. The intent is to punish those who enable teenage smokers, not the teenage smokers themselves.

Last night I had the window open. I am on a first level apartment. I smell smoke. I look outside (totally dark out, can barely see a guy out there, he's smoking right next to my window. Two feet from it).

I bitch and complain loudly "Who the fuck is smoking out there, what the fuck smoking outside my window, Jesus Christ" etc. etc. Hoping I at least embarass them and make them leave. Then I put my box fan on extra super high and point it the other way, and it took 10 minute for the smell to leave the apartment.

What an asshole. He can go smoke somewhere else. Next time I'm going to ask them to leave and if they don't I'm calling the landlord. I hate living on the first level.

Just wanted to add a serious note.

I don't really agree with you just for one reason. Well, I guess it would mean I do and don't agree.

Cancer rates in people who smoke are low, but no one disagrees that smoking cigarettes can cause cancer. The hype about it is what makes us think that cigarettes equal instant cancer. If you really look at the rate of people who smoke all their life who don't get cancer, it's pretty high.

That being said, some people smoke a little and get lung cancer. Genetic predisposition plays a huge role in some people. In others, habit.

This of course means - the amount of people who will get cancer from being exposed to second hand smoke is even lower....but these people do exist. It's just not that many of them.

Secondhand smoke "kills", yes, but only few people are going to be affected. Personally, if I can't even breathe it without gagging - any gas that is - it isn't really good for me. The fact that you can get bronchitis and asthma from secondhand smoke really bugs me too.
