I drive on the 401 for about 45 km every day on my way to work... now, WHY THE HELL do truck drivers feel they need to cut me off... and then take 5 bloody minutes to pass a car, when there is NOBODY behind me? The stretch of 401 I drive is 2 lanes, so I'm usually stuck behind the truck doing 102 in a 100 zone for 5 minutes per truck pass.

Half the time the bastards don't even signal.

edit: I should add to this, that YES, I do drive over the speed limit. But still... why do they feel they need to pass when I am 15 feet away from passing them?

bandi, I notice this on the stretch of Hwy 401 I travel in Durham Region every day. I think the truckers are bored and/or pissed off at their lot in life and cutting you off releases some stress for them.

On my way home from work this morning, there was a two car/two-18 wheeler crash scene at the Salem Rd interchange. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm...

God, in the Qunite area, it's even worse. I've been cut off many of times when there is NO one behind me and I'm approaching the transport very fast. Urgh. Really annoying, I can defiantly understand your frustration bandi

I try to respect the truck drivers. And so far haven't seen any big problems. Maybe couple times. But not a lot. But I think somewhere on 401 where are only 2 lanes it could be a pain in the ass......fucking race.....100km/h against 101km/h...

They just don't want to turn off the cruise control. Thats why they sometimes pass at dumb times, and why they can take a very long time to pass someone.

Good point Taco. They have to balance speed and economy. Every extra pressing gas thing will cost them.

Fixed my problem... i moved. 5 minute drive to work now... much nicer. Now I just have to put up with native protests on the reserve I pass through. Fuck them, I have 4 wheel drive... their roadblocks aren't THAT big...

That will be next week's rant (native protests, not 4x4)

Ohh BTW from now on every commercial vehicle must be artificially limited to 105km/h. Some of them already have a limiters. It's the first step before they will bring back a speed cameras. I'm wondering how long after speed cameras implemented they will appear on ebay!

Most of a truck drivers are not an assholes.

I'd be willing to have my speed capped to 105 or 100 kmph. I drive 110 on the 401 when it's not gridlocked. I timed my commute at that speed then simply leave my house with time to arrive on time with a little pad for variables.

I'm terribly disorganized and usually PLAN to leave on time, but usually get held up, and then usually realize I need gas after I thought I had enough... then Tim Horton's... so nine times out of ten, 105 doesn't cut it on the 401.

Bandi I'm partially in your club...but after a got T-boned....because I was late and on the phone... I changed. And even if I'm late I never rush anymore... I'm relaxed... I don't change lanes a lot... I'm just safer driver now.

Exactly. I don't see how the inability of an adult to get their shit together allows them to excuse themselves from the posted speed limit laws. The sheer amount of drivers I see whippin' past me at 140k or above is an example of the arrogance of the speeder (who believes their right to speed outweighs my right to safety) and a direct ridiculing of the posted speed limits.

I love driving 140, I just suffer from a lack of patience, those who choose to follow said limit should stay out of the passing lanes.

exactly.
if you can't commit yourself to a higher speed, stay the fuck out of the left lanes. Just because you aren't comfortable at that speed doesn't mean that you've been appointed the safety elephant for that section of road.

George Carlin once said, "Have you ever noticed that anyone going slower than you is an asshole, and anyone going faster is an idiot?"

I should also point out that, although I run late a lot of the time... I also didn't spend time/money swapping in a Japan-only, larger, more advanced, etc engine in my car so I could drive slower. I will admit, sometimes I DO enjoy driving in an "enthusiastic" manner... but not at the expense of the safety of others...

At least at the new job, my boss rents Shannonville raceway once a month, so I get to really see what the car can do.

I should also point out that those who have seen me drive at UER meets... well, you know what it's like trying to keep up with the other cars sometimes.

I like how if I steal a pack of gum from the corner store I'll end up arrested and in court faster than it takes for me to reach climax under typical conditions yet the Caledonia "protest" has been going on indefinitely it seems. When will they realize that THEY WERE CONQUERED AND THAT WE OWN THEM - IT'S TIME TO SUBMIT GOD DAMN IT! This isn't racist, it's simply THE WAY IT SHOULD BE. If they don't like it, take it up with the courts but don't dick around blocking provincial highways, halting a new development that that developer obeyed all rules in starting and pissing off the residents of the immediate area.
