Has anybody had any experience with cloth diapers? Atomx and I have decided to have a try at it this time around with baby #2.

I am more interested in the AIO's and pockets, but I obviously have NO idea when it really comes down to it. My friend (who is a midwife) told me she would make me some prefolds and some inserts for free, which is great.

Anybody have any experience with cloth? or am I just all by myself with this topic?

i haven't. i hear it's VERY expensive to start. plus you have to keep up with the sizes.

my husband and i worked it out financially - and if we are going to have more kids, it's worth it.

plus, you can get them in all sorts of cute colors and patterns nowadays.

If you are staying at home after the wee one is born I would say go for it. I had to go back to work in 2 weeks and I could not keep up with it. It turned into a stinky situation. I could not find a diaper service in my area so I had to wash then myself.

Yes, I plan to stay home for a year with the new babe.

I plan to wash them myself, I am sick of going out for 'diaper runs' in the middle of the winter... I hate having to put out a HUGE garbage bag full of poopy diapers each week (since we have to pay for our garbage) and I hate bum rash. I am SICK of it.

My first daughter has pretty bad eczema, and I'm pretty sure the next one will too. So this is defiantly an option to go for us

My folks raised two kids without one plastic diaper. Yes, its messy, but kids are messy. I just have a weird feeling that plastic can't be really good for your baby. I seem to remember reading something about certain plastics giving off fumes, and one would assume that close contact with Jr.'s skin wouldn't be good.

FYI, I have never had kids of my own, but I would definitely put them in cloth. Nothing too good for the kids eh?

I wish I would have seen this earlier! I'll post anyway...

We use cloth on our son, and we will for any future babies. We spent about $100 total on diapers, from newborn size through what he's wearing now (he'll be two next month). You can find them cheap on eBay, diaperswappers.com, or diapertraders.com. I like Fuzzi Bunz the best (pockets), and I sew some myself (AIOs and pockets). We also have Kooshies, and they're good too. If you can sew, the Very Baby patterns are really easy to follow. We love the cloth diapers...they're easy to use, save a ton of money, they're environmentally responsible, our son's never had diaper rash...I imagine they're a lot more comfortable then the disposables, too.

Did you end up buying any since your initial post? I've purchased some Fuzzi Bunz from cottontailbaby.com. They send out coupons with your orders, too.

40+ year olds with Myspace pages are not cool, they are pediphiles on the prowl. Buyer beware.

Things have changed so much over the years. When my kids were in diapers they did not have all this cool stuff. There were simple diaper covers and the pads that you laid in then and of course the rubber pants. I might have stuck it out longer but it seemed that every time I turned around they were leaking and oozing all over the place. We went through as many outfits as diapers.

Yeah, cloth has definitely improved a lot. We have people frequently say things like, "I thought you had to use diaper pins and the plastic covers!" I can see why people got so turned off by them before all the current styles came out.

It's truly amazing how quickly you get over it

Anyway, cloth nappies (sorry, diapers) are a must-have regardless of what you put your kids in. They're perfect for wiping up all the unpleasant things that pop out of children at various times (make sure to put one over your shoulder if you're doing some burping).

Yeah. We got on that wagon. Lasted a while, and then we realized that washing bucketfuls of shitty diapers each and every day was a fucking drag.

It was an expensive lesson.

I haven't started using our cloth diapers yet... I am actually pretty scared of them (lol)

I have switched over to cloth pads though. BEST THING I'VE EVER DONE WITH MY LIFE.

Surprisingly easy and feel a lot better than disposables.

now that the men have lost their lunches, can you please clean up the floor?
