cooling

i wanna overclock my q6600 big time. I have the G0 stepping and have brought it up to 2.7 right now (FSB at 300) and it hangs around 45 Celcuis and it's dead stable on a P35. I want to bring it up past 3ghz and I don't know if I should go towards water cooling or just get some huge ass Thermalright or thermaltake?

suggestions?

Well if you haven't ran into any problems yet, keep going. Have you adjusted the voltage yet? I'm fairly certain you should be able to take the G0 to 3.0 purely by upping the FSB. Are you doing all of this on the stock cooler?

Either way water cooling shouldn't be necessary. I've seen a ton of people take it up and over 3Ghz on air.

yeah im on the stock intel cooler.

voltages are the same. Apparently the P35-DS3R is stable up to 500 FSB.

I was looking at the Coolermaster Aquagate S1 cause it seems decent and at 80$ it's kinda cheap for WC.

You'll want a water or freon solution to sink that much heat. Make sure your PS up to it as any additional thermal load on it will derate it's wattage rating.

You might get better system performance by going with a 4 disk striped raid array for the OS if your have a force 4 mobo.

Clear the Cmos, that happens when it's OCed too far; it's prolly ok.
Keep a close eye on the chipset, CPU and memory temps. Remember to increase to V+ for the RAM too when OCing.

I don't go too nuts with the OCing as stability is more important. OCed machines always seem to fail when you need them the most...

The power supply would be my first suspect.
Reset the Ram sticks, vid card, and mobo all power connections. A bad power connections could be the culprit too.
Of coarse never touch contacts, but sometimes this happens, and reseating them can "cure" this.
Eyeball the whole thing real good.

I've had two new "good" PS's go stone dead on me in the last year or so, and I wasn't exceeding their ratings.
I'm going with a dual boot PS systems now on all my machines now; enough is enough. Antec is the PS of choice. I'm not running the second as a redundant, but rather in tandem to distribute the load across the two supplies for more stable power rails.

well my bf also has an LGA775 mobo with an E6750 so I plan on testing a few parts on his pc today.

My PS is fine, checked it out with my DIMM, everything is stable. It's a huge ass enermax noisetaker...

My huge ass enezmax was one of the that died on me like a Sunday duck.
Just because you have the right voltages on the rail doesn't mean it's ok, and not the cause of the problem: switch it out with a known good copy.

Make sure the power up switch circuit is good
Make sure the Cmos cleared.
My guess is your Cmos didn't clear; my Asus locks up like this, it's won't post and sits there like a fucking brick. Clear the Cmos and reload the settings, all's good again.

Once you have known good copies to try, you'll sort it out fast.
Good luck, hope what ever it is cheap and easy

Dude. Wow. Please spend the next batch of money on a better case. Please.

Though that case isn't *that* bad, it sure is an ugly fucker.

oh yeah, but, when I built my pc, I said to myself, I rather spend 50$ on a case than 200$ and use the extra cash on other shit like the ES drives, etc etc.

it's ugly, but it's well built.
