My GM only has 177,000 and is falling apart. Wtf? the two before it did too....

I don't trust them. Ford killed GM's decent, haul ass with four trailers in tow, lineup with Excursion. If you're gonna burn gas, burn it right.

My dad has a 1994 Ford Ranger...the only good thing about it is the engine...he's replaced every single little spring, bolt and clamp that originally came with the body at just under 140,000 miles and had to have some of them machined because you can't buy many of them from even a Ford dealership. Now he's gonna have to start working on replacing the box of the truck itself because the body is eaten through, and I mean eaten through, big gaping fucking holes in it. What's worse is I think the rust is what's holding it together. You can't tell if it's rust colored or the original navy blue.
At 98K, he had to have the clutch replaced, twice. The original burned out, something in the replacement snapped off and this replacement seems to be holding.
If your GM made it that far, then it's doing better than the Fords.

GM also lost $38 billion in 2007... probably not a good thing. I'm not huge on domestics, but if I have to drive one, it's usually a Dodge. I don't mind replacing my transmission every 3 weeks

If it was between GM or Ford... I don't even know what I'd choose, I mean, Ford has built crap like the Contour/Mystique (Or Mistake), which in my opinion is the WORST CAR EVER MADE (sorry), but GM has just had soooo many problems with intake gaskets, wheel bearings, purge solenoids, and well... I find the build quality leaves a lot to be desired. My ex's dad had an '04 Corvette 50th anniversary edition, and the interior panels felt like the ones on my friend's '02 Cavalier - cheap!

Now, I think they have a lot going for them, the new Camaro promises to be sweet (But about 10 years too late for the retro craze...), The Cobalt is awesome, and a refreshing change from the Cavalier, and I think the Canyon and Colorados are neat little trucks. The Enclave is apparently selling well... but it looks like fuck pie... like the offspring of a Rendezvous and the Aztec. Which got kicked down the stairs after. And overfed.

Ford, well, the only car they've ever made that appealed to me was the Mustang (And I think the '05-up Mustang is the best looking domestic on the road), and they are a pain in the ass to work on, plus they seem to rust like mad. Ford can't make a good looking car these days (other than the 'stang), they don't even HAVE a minivan anymore, and as sporty as the try to be with the "rally inspired" Focus (forget it's proper name), it's s bone stock piece of shit under the hood. I can't say I've ever heard anyone rant about how rally-car like their Focus is.

Another ex of mine's dad had a brand new (at the time) '04 Ranger Edge 4x4. I drove it when it was about a month old, and it felt like it was 10 years old... uncomfortable, rough, and just... cheap feeling. Plus, his head gasket went at 22,000 km (warranty covered, of course), but still...

The sad thing is, that car has the lowest mileage of all cars in the family and falls apart the most. Cars are supposed to last a lot longer than that. Heck, our 78 LTD has 200+k on it and the only thing that ever goes wrong with it is that it needs a new fuel pump every 20k miles. The rest of our cars are european and have 250+ on the clock and still going strong. My sisters volvo 240 has 393,000 miles and has never had the engine touched except for a new transmission (upgraded to the 5 speed) and a new o-ring for the idle adjustment knob....

eh, fuck it.
we buy GM's
they last here (with the exception of my last 98 and that wasn't the cars' fault as i found out later)

this topic is now officially a dickwaving contest.
buy what you fucking want but at this point i don't give a fuck how well it runs or how wonderful it is.

i just don't give a shit.
i'm sick of fucking asian fanboys
i'm sick of fucking german fanboys.
i'm even sick of hearing about volvos!
i'm sick of hearing how wonderful such and such car is and that gm's suck.
gm sucks. gm sucks. gm sucks. gm sucks... day after day after day.

kiss the fattest part of my ass

'oh my toyota just runs so much better than this horrible chevrolet i had it such better resale value... oh my honda is so much better engineered than any domestic and it has such a great resale value...' maybe if you enjoyed your car from day fucking one, you wouldn't worry about resale value? i drive the fuck out of my cars. day after day they are on the road. I pound the living fuck out of them! they are driven over terrible roads, in shitty new york weather... and gee whiz they don't seem to break. had a fucking piece of shit 14 year old lumina with almost 200,000 miles on it and it refused to die. Still refuses to die!!! i've had gm after gm go the distance. what? all these cars were flukes? my friends and their GM's were all flukes?
but what's funny... the ones with foreign cars, zippy little Accords and the ever popular Civic... breakdowns every other day. Why oh why?
i think i have finally snapped... idiots at work have finally driven me around the bend... all i can hear in my head is this fucking moron from work cackling like a fucking stuck chicken about his corolla is worth so much more than my cobalt. i want to fistfuck him in the eye socket with a machete. a dull machete. something that will tear his fucking skull apart and then i want to set fire to him in his fucking corolla. what the fuck does corolla mean anyway? or camry? Bah!

I find that with GM and Dodge I know generally to expect with reliability 100%

The only Japanese makers I have the same feeling about oddly is Isuzu and to a lesser extent Nissan. Toyota really the only thing that drives me nuts is that a lot of the parts are not generic.

Ford just drives me nuts with their inconsistancies.

Hahahaha... I paid $600 for the Tercel. Although it's fast and I've put a lot of work into it, it's probably still work about $600

what the fuck does corolla mean anyway? or camry? Bah!

Corolla = highly modified leaf... and latin for "Small Crown"

Camry = Anglicized pronunciation of the Japanese term "kan-muri" meaning "small crown".

(I thought Corolla was Japanese for "bland" but anyhow)

haha i know... i'm not hatin'

I was thinking about the resale thing... and I REALLY haven't made a lot of profit when I sell my cars. Like... I think I've made a profit on 5 or 6. And I've owned over 100.

Although... I drive SHIT most of the time... and anything unique/valuable, I generally don't sell!

Chrysler sold an electric Caravan to the US Gov't years ago and well they got good use out of them and since then sold them to the public. There's an ham radio operator in Arizona who I know has one and finds it pretty slick and actually has upgraded the batteries in it.

Oh and Samarui, just to annoy you, Chrysler put in a GE electric motor and controller

I'm on the GM bandwagon as well. I work in a small shop (but am going to work at Chevrolet in March...hehe). The majority of the cars/ trucks I work on are...ahhhhhmmmmm.....FORDS and Hondas. Go figure?

But back on the electric car topic, has anyone seen the Tesla Roadster? Pretty sweet if you ask me. Appoligies if someone has already mentioned it here.
