dear poison ivy, i hate you. and i managed to make it nearly the entire summer without your yearly annoyance, however i was finally afflicted this sunday, either when traipsing through the jungle en route to a power plant or when hiding in the bushes in the pouring rain from the department of human services at a local hospital. and now you are on my right leg and right arm, and you are itchy, and have spread to my left arm as well.

you itch, and no anti itch cream helps. and benedryl puts me to sleep so i hate taking that shit.

oh poison ivy. i nearly evaded you, and yet i see you win again.

Uh-oh. Poison ivy seems to be really bad this year. It's everywhere you look! Luckily, I'm not allergic to it (I'm allergic to every other friggin' plant, so it evens out). You better hit the doc and get a steroid shot before it spreads all over you.

Usually that's the one thing I don't get. I get the more fun skin diseases.
Eczema or prickly heat anyone?

I've never had a run in with poison ivy, though I am subject to hellish (and cruelly random at times)hives. Head to toe welts, and little but the passage of time makes them go away.

My summer of UE: poison ivy, burrs in my crotch region, mosquitoes and grass-stained clothes that never seem to get clean again.

Oh how I feel your pain. I am highly highly allergic to the stuff. After almost thirty years of dealing with this crap I've only found one thing that works. It works like magic. Try it and you will be thanking me for sure.

...ive heard of that stuff. the problem is, i hate being hot and sweating, and so i simply INSIST on wearing shorts while exploring in the summer, even when navigating the woods at say places like seaview where i always end up tangled in a prickerbush mess. so basically i would in theory have to bathe in this stuff every time i went exploring. lol. it would also be quite beneficial if i took the time to learn what the hell poison ivy looks like as compared to other plants, i am sure. but that thought does not usually cross my mind until im already diving into a patch of it like its a pile of loose leaves in autumn.

Old country saying:

"Leaves of three, let it be".

That applies to both poison ivy and poison oak.

It put me in the hospital.
I have super sensitive skin so it spread to about 80% of my body. They had to strap my arms down to keep me from scratching and put gauze between my fingers and toes.

Well this was on an army base that's known for the poison ivy. After the first summer of trying to avoid it and catching it after all of my efforts, I resigned myself to the fact that I'd undoubtedly get it the next summer. I just wasn't ready for the excruciating pain - there were blisters on blisters that weeped and within days every part of me was covered from the oils getting on my bedsheets and clothing.

My parents came to visit for one weekend that summer and I cried and was in agony the entire time, sitting in a hotel bathtub while they were constantly running out to the variety store to grab bags of ice to help with the intense itching. Shortly after I got back on base I was admitted to the hospital and they wanted to send me home.
