Oh how I feel your pain. I am highly highly allergic to the stuff. After almost thirty years of dealing with this crap I've only found one thing that works. It works like magic. Try it and you will be thanking me for sure.

That stuff is wonderful. My husband is very allergic. He covers head to toe when cutting wood and after he strips off the clothes that go right in the washer he uses the wash before he showers. Since then he has only gotten it once.

I found something worse than poison ivy, Hogweed. That crap left me with scars that hurt every time I get in the sun.

Yeah, I'm one of the lucky hypersensitive people to irritating plants. Since 4th grade I've gotten poison ivy EVERY summer, at LEAST once. 7 year itch is partial BS!! I say partial because now, after 14 years I've finally built up a weird type on immunity.

I'll get poison ivy still, but it won't spread to parts of my body where the plant hasn't actually touched, even if affected parts touch unaffected parts. Also, it never seems to itch that badly. No worse then what I'd assume a mosquito bite to be (got lucky there, I NEVER get mosquito bites, or they don't show up/itch).

Those who have been immune to it in the past will start seeing that change. Besides the fact your skin is constantly changing, higher average temperatures, and higher levels of carbon, make an environment that plants in general thrive in. According to studies done by Nat'l Geo, irritating plants are growing larger and therefore more potent then ever before.

But whatever, Tecnu Extreme works wonders, and my immunity serves me well. I can't stand to wear anything but shorts in the summer anyway.

I've heard that old fashioned lye soap works really well on poison ivy. I know it worked well on my mosquito bites, but I've been lucky so far and haven't encountered poison ivy.

Shutterbug had an allergic reaction to poison ivy that put her in the hospital about 12 years ago. When she told the doctor that she had it before (same areas), the doctor told her that our skin remembers the initial exposure and will react worse to it a second time. That's why the unaffected parts didn't break out as easily.

Also, meant to add, the first exposure was more than 7 years prior to the one that put her in the hospital.

I was aware that there was "some" ivy at this location. When i got there I was slightly shocked to find it everywhere around it. And in it.

All the green plants on the ground is "teh ivy"
G

ps. technu is awesome, but its basically dilute mineral spirits. I suppose you could just wash with water diluted spirits. Its probably cheaper. I'd stay away from "those" areas tho-

I am highly allergic to Poison Ivy...Usually I do this:

1.Shower ASAP when I notice I am in
2. When fresh break out appears...Pour straight bleach and soak area in bleach (VERY RISKY as you can get blood poisoning.) This cuts healing time in half and itch.
