There is no other smell that can universally piss off everyone, I think. That smell is cat urine.

My fat male cat, in a bout of jealousy over my friendly girl kitty, peed just feet away from the laundry room where the litter box is. Of course, he peed on the carpet. I called in the pros and they came to clean the carpet, leaving a fresh lemony scent. Not pissed off anymore but I tell ya - cat pee is no fun at all.

I'd have to say that cat spray has cat urine beat in terms of vulgarity. One whiff of that, and I'm wretching all day.

I say pee is pee. Wether it's cat, dog, or human. It all stinks. Bad.

A house my brother owned had cat pee embedded in some boards in the floor. They tried sanding and almost died from the stench! The boards had to be replaced.

Our cats got mad at us for locking them in the utility room, where our washer and dryer were, when our daughter was born so they pissed all over the carpet...which was merely laid on the concrete below...our landlord forgave us, by some miracle, but we lost most of our deposit because not only will he have to rip up the carpet, but treat the concrete below because it soaked into it as well! Not only that, but the dryer had to be replaced because everything dried in it smelled like hot cat piss after that...

No. Cat piss is worse than sun-boiled whiskey-and-red-meat piss hands down. And that's how I make the comparison. Does this piss smell better or worse than the piss out of a frat boy after a night of whiskey and red meat?

Not that I spend time smelling frat piss.

My cat, a brutal three-legged thug, has taken to pissing in my son's room whenever Mr. Kitteh cops an attitude. Fucking punk. 'Oh...you're leaving for the weekend? Okay.' Or, '...and this is what I think of that lame econo-blend KITTEH FUD you 'tested' on me.'

Surprise. And it isn't even a surprise anymore. It's just another puddle of his piss. '...ferfucksakes, Pussycat. I'm going to make mittens out of you...' which is surely the most empty threat going. Thing is, he's old, mangled, scruffy, smelly. Not at all unlike most people his age, and because he's been around a long time, and he's good with kiddo, and kiddo loves him and all...

...jesus, I'm getting emo thinking about it...

...he's part of the family, and we...no. I. I love him. He's a good cat. And an excellent mouser. And he once whacked a rat and tore its head off and left it on the doorstop. Both torn-off rat head and headless rat body. Side by each. I was both proud and mortally horrified. Kiddo thought it was wicked.

So yes. Three-legged cat with the attitude is still a good fellow.

But if he keeps pissing in Kiddo's bedroom, there's gonna be some hammertime.

Sounds very familiar KK.
I have the same issue. Except in my case it's a bitchy 4 year old spayed female that got too attached to me, now I'm stuck with her.
I can't talk on the phone, she walks around screaming, yowling at the top of her lungs. Usually a phone call precedes me leaving for the day or evening. After that, she pees on the floor, finding a carpeted corner.
She whines, she cries, she bitches, she complains. If you buy the wrong food, she won't eat, if you buy the wrong cat treats, she won't eat, if you buy the wrong toys, she'll sit in a corner and scowl at you.
You'd think my parents put her up to it. They really don't care for Samurai and usually that's where I'm going, somewhere with him.
I hate cat pee, with a passion and this stupid cat knows how to push my buttons. I can't get rid of her, she's been with me too long, but I have tried everything short of a pet psychiatrist to get her to stop.
In my case, the threat is turning her into fuzzy slippers and it's very half hearted. She reminds me of Nermil(sp?) from the Garfield cartoons. She turns on the charm when I get pissed at her.

The cat at work pees on the couch a lot. And on the bed.

And on the carpet.

Anywhere he wants, really.

Instead of calling in the pros go get some "get the odour out". Works quite well, but sometimes needs a respray/soak. Cheaper than the pros.

I use a spray made by Carpet Fresh. It's like febreeze, but my cats won't go near the carpet fresh. It kills the odor, takes a few sprays, but the female won't pee there again.

one freakin week before our baby was born - the cat started peeing all over the house - peeing blood mind you.

it was really hard to find where she peed because i think girl cat pee isn't as stinky.

she eventually stopped after we had to board her for 3 weeks because our baby was in the hospital for a while...then she stopped.

I had an old cat, who has since died, who would drag her poopy bum everywhere and walk around with poo hanging half out. I bought my own Bissel "steam" cleaner for $100.00 and it works quite well when you mix it with Arm & Hammer Pet Fresh. Nan uses the same one for her dogs and she likes it too.

Just wait until your kitty starts crying in pain and pissing wherever that ISN'T the litterbox, and not only do you end up with piss-soaked carpets and shelves and papers and that great smell BUT you end up with a $600 bill for a catheter and 4 day vet boarding to solve urine crystalization in your male kitten's urethra.

Oh, and a permanent bill for prescription cat food to ensure the crystals don't build again. FOR THE REST OF THE CAT'S LIFE. Thank god he's only a year old!

THEN you not only lose your deposit on your apartment AND your pet deposit ($250 apiece), but are expected to pay an additional $550 for the carpets to be ripped up when you move because the peepee soaked into the padding.

Cat piss? I can tell you stories.

I have a St. Bernard who is getting pretty old. So sometimes instead of waking me up during the night to go out, he'll pee in the same damn spot in my living room.

Now if it were a small dog, it would be bad enough. But a 160 pound dog pees like a grown man. Sometimes worse. But I'll still take it over cat pee/spray.

I have a steam cleaner that works pretty well on it, but on humid days you can still smell it. So if anyone has any "solution" ideas I'd love to hear them. Someone told me to mix the cleaning solution with a bottle of liquid Febreeze which sounds like a good idea. I also saw the Arm and Hammer Pet Fresh idea.

Also, there is a solution that is sold at our local Lawn and Garden store called Natures Miracle that works like a charm after you clean.
