Well I did it... bought a '91 Subie Legacy Turbo.

Definitely gonna have to do the poser rally car look thing with it... although I do several navigation rallies every winter, so fat mud flaps and quad 7" Hellas across the front won't be totally pointless.

you must buy this now.

[edit]I bet the 90,000 km's is actually 490,000 km's

did automakers think that their cars would not make it to 100,000 KM's?

Yeah, I know of a gal who's 6" and 350 lbs (shuddup Nismo) and recently went car shopping. She looked at few SUVs (Dodge Durango was one of them) and found it quite cramped. She ended up with a Chevy Aveo because of the nice legroom and didn't feel cramped at all. My theory is that because of the smaller engines on the compacts, you can really put in some deep legroom.

I'd go Samurai or Jeep XJ (cherokee) The cherokee trans is different than the GC and will last forever if minimally maintained. For that money you should get a nice cherokee or a medium quality sammy.

Same here... it's rare to even see one in bad shape. I maybe see one a month, and I drive a LOT.

(And that one a month usually looks like it's made out of swiss cheese.)

You know, I DO like the Suzuki Sidekick/Chev Tracker/Geo Tracker/GMC Tracker/Asuna Sunrunner/Pontiac Sunrunner (Did I miss any?) and from what I've seen as a mechanic, if you find one with low rust, they're a pretty tough vehicle.

I had one when I was 16, and beat the shit out of the poor thing. It was pretty capable off road, too.

That's pretty cheap for an E36... if it's healthy, I'd go for it.

If it's in good condition, I don't see why not. Check Bimmerforums for things to look for.

I don't think I will ever sell my E36:

So the Legacy turned out to have a cracked head and a missing rear diff (yeah, missing), so I threw some leftover parts together and created this beast:

The rims are from a VW Cabrio (I think), the suspension is stock Tercel struts, with steel mount plates and $40 eBay coilovers, adjusted all the way to the top.

Amazingly enough, sitting 3" higher than stock it's really stable and err... even lands nicely after catching some mild air.

It's getting quad 7" Hella rally lights, fat red mudflaps and chewy snow tires...

If it proves to be reliable, it's getting caged in the spring.
