There really is more to life than building cars that are prohibitively expensive to purchase/lease or maintain for rental car companies to stock up on.

The personal responsibility train left the station years ago, and you gave it the finger as you watched it leave.

Jeep and Hummer are both big government contract oriented companies.

They aren't going anywhere as long as the US Military keeps buying them.

the majority of Hummer sales, however are the H2 and H3 which are embarassingly thirsty and hopelessly out of touch with consumer needs. I'm a GM guy and these things can only make me roll my eyes. Used to be a Corvette was a symbol for midlife crisis... now it's an H2 or H3 on 22's

the government never has or never will be a big buyer of hummers they buy the military one built by AM general. Not GM, gm only markets the civilian one

GM does marketing and distribution for the Hummer; both the HMMMV and the Hummer are still made by AM General.

On a side note, if Jeep goes under the GM banner, then I wouldn't be surprised if GM puts the hummer back under the Jeep name.
