Some of the girls I know have a locked up inner whore they can only let out at Halloween.

I hate that all standard costumes for women are slutty. I tried to dress up when I was throwing the Halloween party at my university and I could not find a costume that still let me keep my dignity and professionalism. I still dressed up, but definitely got some looks for that.

Or you DIDN'T find a costume that allowed you to retain your dignity and professionalism, and subsequently had to dress like slutty-like, which people looked at you for?

Also, what type of "looks?" Please elaborate. Were they "god, what a whore" looks, or were they "damn that girl is smokin'!" looks??

The last time I dressed up for Halloween was several years ago at work. It seemed kind of mandatory. Our department had a circus theme. So that morning, when I got to work, I grabbed scissors and tape and headed to the bathroom. I cut off some of my hair and gave myself a soul patch. I was the bearded woman. This is the day that really turned me off Halloween. I spent that day with co-workers, mostly slutted out, constantly approaching me demanding why I insisted on making myself unattractive. Then of course the rumours started that I am a lesbian.

The point being, there is far too much pressure of women to be sluts for Halloween. I will have no part of that. Since I won't have any part of that I am forced to have no part of Halloween. If people want to dress slutty, fine. I won't be participating and I don't think people should be ridiculed, taunted, called uptight, etc. for not wanting to participate.

I could not find an outfit that exuded professionalism. As a consequence I got comments and eye raping looks from members of my organization (flattering, but still). Plus the professors bring their kids to these events. Who really wants to be the one scantily clad around your boss's five year old? Needless to say I learned my lesson: don't go costume shopping for an event you are throwing a week before.

I wish. But I work in an very male-dominated scientific discipline. There were about two other women at a party of about 60 people and they both chose not to dress up. I could not find a pimp costume in time, but swore I'd find a princess or something else g-rated for next year.
