I read a few articles that finally led me to the link above. No more performance division for GM... All engineers being redeployed to focus on core products! Oh My

While you're reading it... check out the reader post below the article. A great rant .. and a fairly accurate one from a reader

Sure it could. Chrysler and GM could merge.... they'd drop the Neon motor into the Cobalt.... and you'd be driving a Cobalt SRT-4

i actually resent being called a fanboy... a fanboy talks shit but can't back it up. I talk mad shit and CAN back it up.

i haven't decided if I am going to trade for a Turbo SS or what for an entry-level V6 Camaro (300hp) or a mid-level V8 Camaro with the RS package.

For those not satisfied with the car of the year Malibu... next year we're putting an Intrepid transmission in it.

after cruising around CobaltSS.net this morning, the SS package Cobalt, HHR, Cadillac CTS-V and Pontiac Solstice GXP and G8 GXP aren't going anywhere. According to the insider info posted, the 60 engineers are being farmed out to other, higher-priority projects within the company. The vehicles will still be built.

... as long as GM stays in business.

Probably not.

What is actually happening is they are buying out a bunch of workers and then replacing them with workers under a new union contract that pays them 10 or 15 bucks an hour lower then existing workers.... which in my opinion brings them closer in line with what they SHOULD be earning for said work. (no offense hopefully to anyone).

Well hopefully they keep the cars around, I'm not a huge fan of any of the newer SS stuff but I've got nothing against them. I'm more into Chrysler's SRT stuff and I'm sure Chrysler is already eying up ditching that too.

I was going to go all anti-mopar on this comment, but it dawned on me how goddamn tough a Slant-6 equipped Volare/Aspen was!

By the time I got mine it was in total disrepair and getting somewhere between 3-6MPG depending on the day.. I managed to fix it up to about 12, that thing ran with no problem (although if you gave it time to get up speed on flat terrain it would idle somewhere around 40ish eventually without ever touching the pedal, never did get around to fixing that).. It always started, never gave me shit and basically got put through hell.. my brother even managed to light it on fire once with a botched break repair job, he ended up getting most of the engine hoses on fire and after it was all put out it ran fine (luckly the hoses didn't burn through and the wiring was all good) But as all good things come to an end it was snuffed from this world at the young age of 24 by an International Ambulance traveling across it's hood at 60MPH+.. Sadly even though the poor beast took the hit valiantly her frame was slightly twisted and we had to put her down..

But as a testament to cars actually being made of steel not plastic.. The Ambulance, which was one of those beefy fuckers with dualies, skimmed the front end of my car hopping the back end of it up onto my hood and there were tire marks going across the bumper from it's inner back tire, the right quarter panel was on the left and most of the finer details of the engine were hanging about randomly the bumper was still firmly attached to the car (which I had to jumped on to make sure) and would have been not to hard to repair short of the front right section of the frame being slightly bent due to the force it hit the ground.. after all that damage I still had to turn the key off to kill the engine, granted it /really/ didn't sound even remotely happy and would have likely died soon after..
I've seen newer cars get in lesser wrecks and splinter into a million pieces and be instantly totaled..
