| | | yeah, nismo, im with everyone else on this, 95% of the pictures you posted are rice, not euro. personally, i feel like the euro look is destroyed as soon as rims past 18" and disgusting wings and body kits land on the classic lines of BMW, Mercedes Benz, Volkswagen etc etc. its really easy to kill the euro look, which is why almost all the cars you posted with their 12" drops, 22" rims, pitch black tints, street glow, and obnoxious exhaust classifies those cars as rice in my book. I'd also like to point out another thing, the ricer look to me is a strive for a racing, luxurious, aggressive, street look mess and when you take a nice classic euro car and try to do that, it gets ugly. like this Let me show you something though, all the European company's have been able to pull that look off in their race cars without having them look ricey. sorry, maybe i'm just a bit of a purist. i really like European cars stock. im not even a huge fan of rims that aren't from the manufacturer with the exception of some bbs's and a few others. i feel the same way about American cars also however. i cant stand Chrysler 300's and chargers and other various cars that have disgustingly dark tints and 20" rims that cost more than the damn car. Lastly, im not saying all cars with big rims and loud pipes and dark tints look bad, just that most make me want to puke. i did see a very nicely riced mercedes 190e that still kept its euro look while adding that tuner touch.

A fan boy is some one who thinks their car is gods gift to the world when in reality its just an above average boring POS. I have a jetta, I like it, its fun and powerfull but I dont whore it out every chance I get, and it doesnt run on hopes and dreams. I drive a VW for the community aspect of it, not because its a better car, Id glady take any JDM car or E30 or something in its place.
| I hate to rain on your parade, but most of the import weenies that i have come across in the past 12 years have been fanboys. There are exceptions of course, and there are some guys in the domestic camp that are absolutely assholes. It's not the car, it's the driver. Unfortunately, the driver is linked to the car, so his car sucks by proxy. Why did you call everyone and idiot? Face it, the cars that led off this thread are not what most of the hardcore Euro guys would call Euro. They are using questionable styling cues that have become somewhat of a cliche that represents what the term 'rice' has come to mean. Also, I think you need to realize that fun and powerful are not always defined in the same manner. I will guarantee you that there are several folks in this thread and on this board that have driven sincerely powerful cars, everything from big block musclecars to full on rally machines. A Jetta would not qualify as fun nor powerful in any lexicon to many of those folks. Even my Cobalt SS, which is more than most people think it is, would pale to folks that have driven things that are more at home on a track. i suppose that automotives taste is subjective. Not everyone is going to like what your, or I, or Bandi, or Big Dave, or Oddspot or Bustedknuckle likes... that's just human nature. Personally, in my experience, the last good VW made was air cooled. I've had one Golf and it was junk. My friends Golf was junk, his stepbrothers' Jetta was junk... but that's just me. You get one guy with nine horror stories, you'll return fire with 90 people who think VW's walk on water and turn water into wine. My love of most things GM's... i've had excellent experiences with all the GM's (well there was that 98 Cavalier sedan, but I've tried hard to forget about that car). You could come back to that and tell me 19 horror stories about GM's. Back and forth back and forth. Now, you say that you like Volkswagen for the community aspect of it. That's all well and good, it's much the same reason that I joined clubs for the Cavalier and Cobalt. Being a domestic and GM, we've ALWAYS been the underdogs. No one takes us seriously. No one. Until we started winning on the tracks. Even then, we get sneered and jeered by the big wheel and wing sets... the guys who have HONDA tattooed on their testicles. Never have I let it get to me and I have remained solidly loyal to domestic manufacturers. When you are the underdog, victory is that much sweeter. i think i got my point across... probably not, but no one will care because everyone skips my posts anyway.

You know, the mullet-headed douchebag in the Chevrolet Performance jacket, with matching hat, tattoo of an '80 Malibu with side pipes, another tattoo of a number three with angel wings on it, ranting on about how he "wouldn't buy any other car 'cuz Chev's the best and they're built with pride, and it'd kick your Nazi car's ass and they last like a million miles", and then proceeds to get into a rusted out '99 Chevy Venture (With an SS badge and stick on "hood scoops") covered in Earnhardt stickers and drives off, without signalling. But his '85 Camaro is fuckin' fast as shit! ...that is if he ever get it off the jack stands, and puts an engine in it.

| those are the guys that give the rest of us a bad name. I do not have a mullet. I do not own any Chevy Performance stuff. I do not have a GM or bowtie tattooed anywhere on me, nor do I watch NASCAR. For motorsport, I prefer WRC, the european touring car (because these guy are fun to watch... they just don't care!) and the Australian equivalent. and last time I checked, an 85 Camaro was light years away from being fast as anything... the 305's were anemic little turdlets with some glimmer of potential and the 350's were only available with a slushbox that filtered the fun a bit.

you clearly missed the point i was trying to get across about obnoxious rims. im pointing out that what i feel the rice look is striving for is disgusting, and that all the elements that a "good" rice look has have already been done by the car manufacturers in their non-consumer versions without looking tacky. Even if one does want to modify their euro far beyond stock it can be done with the use various euro aftermarket kits that stay true to the euro look. like i said though, i know my taste isn't for everyone and that im a bit conservative in the modification department. sinister, im glad someone agrees.
| I think your point about big rims was fairly clear. You said why spend more on rims then the car is worth.... nothing to mix up there. My point is, 20's are cheap, so do your homework before you spout off. I do however agree on the conservative in the modification department. As the Legendary Chip Foose says.... the ultimate compliment is when someone can look at a heavily modified car and ask "what did you do to it" because it looks like it should have come from the factory!! It should look stock, while looking custom. I heavily believe that, and i've built, bought and driven some prettty crazy custom stuff
