my brother works at a Chevrolet/Pontiac/Buick dealership and he gets paid by the hour, rather than by the job. The service advisers get paid by the job, so they naturally schedule as many jobs as they can.

Actually I was wrong... Chilton time guide says 5.4 for the front rotors, 4.9 for the valve cover gasket.

I just remember getting a Canyon in that the apprentice diagnosed, and quoted 1.5 to do pads and rotors, and .5 to do the gasket (Which was leaking oil into the spark plug wells)

We suggested maybe he consult the book before making up times.

When the shop is busy, I LOVE flat rate, but it definitely sucks when it's quiet.

What's so complex about the front brakes on these things that needs so much time?

The front rotors are a captured rotor set up. You must remove the hub to get the rotors off.

Well this is interesting.
I had assumed that my H3 had the same frame, suspension, drive train and braking components as a crew cab 4x4 Canyon/Colorado. never really looked into it to be honest. Turns out, it doesn't the H has regular labour for brakes of 1 hour to do both sides.

i learned something today

What are your experiences with rear brakes? My fiancee's dad has an 01 Colorado and he's redone the back brakes from the backing plate up 2 times now, and now everything's rusted so bad that he won't be able to repair the rear brakes again.

Me goin' legit would be like JarJar on speech therapy.

It's just a trait they have. Rear brakes wear out in a hurry on those things... and they're kind of a pain to do with the big single retaining spring thing. It's kind of like disarming a bear trap with chopsticks.

... and they almost always have a rear brake squeal, no matter how well lubricated and cleaned everything is.

And yeah, the H3s have a different brake setup. It works.
