I'm not sure what you mean?
it's cheaper to insure the Impala?
of course, you're less likely to get hurt in an Impala as it's a larger car with more safety features. (the front end of an Impala FWD could double as a fucking battering ram- I had a 98 Lumina and 99 Monte Carlo that were W-bodies and they were beefy up front)

What do you mean by "insured one/both side(s)"?

And yeah, insurance sucks to be sure, especially if you are young and/or have a tarnished record. Sucks even worse if you get something considered to be a "sports car".

EDIT: If you're looking at full sized cars, maybe also peek at a Caddy or Lincoln. Could find a good deal on one, but they (I think) require premium fuel. My friend in high school had an 88 DeVille, rode like a dream.

A final option is if you know how to work on a car, get something quite a bit older, like a 60s Ford. Not only are they fuckin' tanks, you'll be cool an stuff.

One sides means that you're just insured for the damage that you could cause to other vehicle. Both sides you're car is insured too.

Yes and no... really depends on the bank. In NYS, most banks don't like to do loans unless it's under a certain number of miles. Usually under 75K, or at least under the 15k/year "national average". They really prefer the car to be less than 5 years old, often less than 3 for them to consider financing at a low rate.

I get around 20 mpg with my Cherokee.

My 90 Nissan Pathfinder got 16mpg.

My 94 Toyota 4runner averaged on a trip to MO got 19.3.

My Cherokee on the hight way knocks out around 22, 17 or so around town. Its not too awful bad. I am happy with a 3300# 4x4 knocking out anything close to 20 mpg.

a ford interceptor is certainly not going to get better fuel numbers than an SUV unless it's on propane. if you get a P72 interceptor on propane youll get even better fuel mileage and itll cost less, as long as you know where all the propane refueling stations are. most of the major gas stations hand out guidebooks showing where all these stations are located in your province like esso/shell/not sure about ultramar...

i would not recommend a vintage daily driver in Quebec unless you want to destroy it. that, and keeping a vintage car of any make/model in daily service requires a rolodex of business contacts that take years to establish. dont buy an old car if it's your only ride.

i would recommend a MkIII Caravan/Voyager (1996-2000) with the three-speed automatic (do not buy the four-speed overdrive or the 3-litre V6) in your price range of $5000 or less you will easily find a low mile/no rust van with lots of options and considering dodge had over 60% of the canadian minivan market share during the MkIII years (now over 70%) you will find a ton of them in scrapyards if you wind up needing parts for it. tons of room for gear and folding rear seats are perfect for sleeping. good gas mileage, excellent safety rating, cheap to insure, comfortable on long drives, good traction. here's what the MkIII magicwagon looks like,

the only problem of course is that it's a minivan, and youre going to have to get over yourself in order to drive it. there's no way to make a minivan cool except to stop worrying about it and be cool when you get out of the minivan. this van will do everything you need it to do. just stay away from the four-speed trans and 3 litre V6 (they had valve guide issues and tend to blow blue smoke) and youll do fine...

vince, in quebec, one side just means your car is covered if its not your fault. In quebec because of our odd insurance rules if you get in an accident YOUR company pays the damage no matter who is at fault. A real bitch for that poor woman whos X-Trail i rear ended and did 5000$ in damage to last summer with her 1000$ deductible

Ok, I finnaly pass my DL and I want a car.Fast.But I don't want to make a mistake and buy some piece of shit.I have 5000$ or less.My ideas are the following.I want a spacious car ,comfort matters more than speed to me.Something I can sleep into during my exploration road-trips.Any sugggestion, << do not buy this >> etc ? Thanks
- Mazda 3
- Chevrolet Lumina, Impala
- Pontiac grand prix

vince, if you want a police impala there is a lot in st-luc quebec (st-jean sur richelieu) that sells SQ cars, he always has a good choice of impalas and CVPI's PM me and ill send you the address. Next to my house a dealer has 3 former Montreal CVPI's, if it came up to choosing between an SQ and Montreal car i would take the SQ car. they have higher mileage BUT they do a lot of highway driving, the montreal cars have engine hours guages for a reason, a LOT of idleing. I know from experience the cars at station 13 sit out back idleing ALL FUCKING winter

P71 is the interceptor designation, and my mpg is better than most if not all SUV's. I get about 20mpg city, and 30 hwy. I was looking at SUV's before, I am guessing they suck gas down because they are usually geared for towing, as well heavier, and less aerodynamic. With a 2.73 rear end on a crown vic 30mpg hwy is the worst you would get, those are on most if not all civi cv's.

In the end I chose this car because I knew it was better on gas, way cheaper on parts, and with all the heavy duty parts on it, I knew it would last.

Propane comes I guess once the taxi co's get their hands on some of the former cv's.

If you consider that a gallon of gas in montreal right now is 4.65$, that may be good a good thing to avoid this.

Right now I consider a 2000 buick century with 80,000 km for around 2800$
OR a 2000 lesabre with 110,000km for about the same price.

Which one would you choose ?
