why the christ would you pay $2K for a MkIII magicwagon? I saw ten of those get thrown on the belt last week.
edit At least it has the 3spd and not the 4spd, but dont pay more than $5-600 tops for one of those, theres a glut of them on the market right now and you should have NO problem finding them cheaper than that.

Why does Nimso drive VW like they are indestructable? Why does Samarui say HELLO NURSE when he sees a GM product with over 1 million miles on the odometer? Why does Bandi require new PANTS when he sees a VW Beetle?

I know a bit more about Caravans than probably anyone else in here. That's a pristine Voyageur for one thing; so I will pony up a bit more for that model. I'm going to aim for 1.6k if the miles are right on it and if it has the MMC 3.0 V6.

dude you really need to get into an auto auction and see what a magicwagon in that condition REALLY goes for.
that ad was put up by a used car lot!
Really? You claim to know more about caravans than anyone else in here, including me, and this is your ace in the hole?
Well it's your money i guess. just trying to help...

Blue Book for that van shows 3000. I know that's a stretch. If you look at the Caravans in the Portland area for 1000 below, they all are questionable, dealer or private party. I don't want something that needs work,
If everything checks out, I will go ahead with 1500 as I will make off with an extra 1000 from my sale.

it's way overpriced for a 1997 Plymouth... sorry, Skellers, but you'd be better off hanging on to your confused SUV. you buy that van, you can post on here that you got ripped off...
sometimes, SKelly, you remind me of Arnie from "Christine"... you can't polish a turd.

i don't know... it's 13 almost 14 years old. it's a Plymouth which is a dead make. it's a Voyager which was the lower line, not as many options. How many miles were on it? Anything over 75,000 with those things and the price takes a nose driver. Provided that the body was solid, the van was under 100,000 miles, EVERYTHING worked and it had some options... i don't think i'd pay more than $1300 for it. (and $1300 is being generous)
what is sketchy about the ad is that they never showed under the hood, listed it as a Dodge when you can see the PLYMOUTH emblem on the grill. The carpet is trashed on the drivers' side. No cassette, no CD. It's got the teeny tiny wheels and tires on it... which means the suspension is probably getting loose.

It does have the look of a used car dealership car that has a steam cleaner. $20 says that at some point, that carpet was closer to the color of used motor oil than the tan that it is now.
If you want a cherry, you're buying it from an old person. That's just how it is. That's what makes them cheap here. Someone's parents knock off and they have to get rid of their shaggin' wagon. Quick sale trumps getting full value out of the car. This affects the value of all of them. Like I said, I've seen minty examples with around 100,000 miles for 3 digit prices. Check out the Orlando, FL, and the Jacksonville, FL Craigslists for good deals. I'll even check them out if you are serious about them.
FWIW, my uncle bought a 2005 Caravan at auction for $1800. It needed a deep cleaning, and not much else.

the whole thing just gives me a bad smell
Oh don't get me wrong, its going to get the whole Skelly investigation into it at this place where everything is poked and driven to the annoyance of the salesmen. If I don't feel confident with it, I'm walking. I'm not one of those idiots who buy cars blindly at used car lots.
Its just the first car I saw; I'll be looking at other Caravans both at dealers and private seller.
I noticed that the mistake in name on the listing; but I am willing to look the other way if its a good van.
I've got other options to look at; there's an AWD Caravan I see and a Ford Ranger I'm going to look at.
