Ever heard of lymes disease?

For starters, its far more prevalent then AIDS or most cancer.
There is not medicine to prevent it or treat it. Just some shitty pills (mainly doxicyclin [sp?]) that does nothing to help. really!
I live in a tick infested area where the cdc estimates that 60+/- % of ALL ticks have this bacteria. I got the disease two years ago. My parents acted like it was no biggie.

I developed intense pain.
arthritis.
weeklong headaches.
heart palpitations.
loss of energy
and at LEAST three dozen other health probs.

Because my parents refused to do anything more than a treatment of doxy, the doctors just gave me about two decades left to live. They said it will get worse. WHAT THE FUCK????? I'm in intense pain all the time! I'm just about 18 and I sometimes have to walk with a cane. My parents make fun of me for my limp. (i got bitten behind my right knee. For some reason (arthritis?) I have limped on this leg.) I loved the woods and the fact that i probably got this from UE-ing in a local abandonment makes me all the more sad..

All this from one little tick...

How soon after the bite did you get treatment for it? Apparently about 5% of all victims have nerve problems after.

I got flu like symptoms. about five days later, I pleaded with my parents to take me to the doctor. If anyone knows what a Cd-57 is (it's a immune test thingy), I got a 11. If you are healthy, you should get above a 200. Most lymes disease sufferers get about a 20 at the initial test. anything below 15 is rare.

Your parents MAKE FUN OF YOU for having such a debilitating disease? What the flying fuck is wrong with them? Your parents may act so shitty because they're trying to hide in some retarded, delusional denial, but their behavior is still unacceptable. Christ.

I have heard of it. Known a few people who had it. One person had it for a few decades. Really sorry to hear you got it so bad. Wish I knew what could help alleviate your pain. I hope the best for you though!

This is something that can be cured if it's caught early, right?

Why didn't your parents let you have better treatment? Is this some sort of US health care thing?

My parents did minor research. They though the drugs were enough. That hate weakness and complaining an stuff. They think I'm just a whiner because none of my symptoms are outwardly. Based on the incredible amount of research I'VE done and my symptoms, I am pretty sure that It has spread to my brain, my eyes, my heart, my digestive system, my joints, my nervous system.

I'm almost 18, but I can't play sports (except tennis. I don't care how much it hurts, I'm going to keep playing.), I cant do much with my hands. They are so stiff that I couldn't begin to play the piano, which was a frequent activity I did. When i first got Lyme's, everybody found out pretty quickly in our town. Our neighbors were shocked. Then, within weeks, more people started getting it.
Right now, I'm seeing a local doctor/naturopath. Not my first choice, but she knows a ton about Lyme's. I can't afford any treatment, because the office visits cost too much right now. But the check-up every quarter of a year keeps me aware of the progression. I can't use my health insurance, so I work 6 part time jobs.

I remember one time when my grandparents (on my mom's side) were visiting. They live quite a distance away, so we don't see them often, but my mom chats with my grandmother at least twice a week.

I was coming down the stairs early in the morning. My arthritis seems to abate after awhile of movement, but when I first wake up, I'm almost crippled. My grandparents saw me stiffly moving down the stairs. They asked me why i was acting like a robot. I told them that my arthritis is bad in the morning. The laughed like I made the biggest joke. They asked why would I have arthritis in the most sarcastic fashion. Though hurt, I told them that it was from my lymes disease. They stopped laughing and turned to my mom and asked, "why didn't you tell us?"

I was grounded for two weeks for bring up a controversial subject after they left.

I haven't mentioned lyme's disease to them in a couple of months. I've just been taking my supplements and exercising. Since I haven't mentioned it, it seems like we are a happy family. That's kinda why I rant in private.

No, I'm going to wait until I'm 18, then get medicine. I've saved up a ton of money just for that.

No do it now. When you're 18 you're on your own. They legally wont be able to force your parents to do anything. Does your doc now how neglectful your parents have been?

Maybe you need to get your doctor to meet with your parents to tell them how serious it actually is.

Could you apply for state disability and therefore get state provided medical insurance for free?

Problem is, is that the local doctors (and we have one of the best medical centers in the US), don't know too much about lyme's either. Most of my friends who have lymes have had to go to germany or Seattle to find treatment. My parents can't afford that right now.

I don't think Lyme's is counted as a disability.

so the 1st step once infected is antibiotics, especially the 1 u mentioned. It says that after the initial infection is treated with meds sometimes arthritis sets in so docs think Lymes can cause autoimmune symptoms. then its charachterized as "chronic" lymes disease which i think can be a classified as a disability. Im so sorry this happened to you & that your parents havent stepped up for you on your behalf. i know some good drugs for nerve damage but with ur heart symptoms i think they'd be dangerous

I've done two stints of Doxy. one for three weeks another for a month.
I have been diagnosed chronic lymes. My parents have taken me to the doctor a few times, but they are in denial about the severity and refuse to discuss alternative medicines/treatments. Just to clarify
