Saw one the other day. Looks like a 5 year old Taurus. Nice work on your revolutionary new car, GM. Nice work.

The Volt is basically a golf cart with a Honda generator strapped to the back to charge the batteros for the electric motors right? I don't know how this is cutting edge tech.

LOL.

It works more like a locomotive. The gas engine, batteries, and electric motor are all connected electrically using a really slick traction management controller. The gas engine doesn't start up until 40 miles or so of driving.

I'm not. AWD on both cars would of been a mistake.

no, just the minivans.
and the 3000GT/Stealth R/T TT

AWD on the Cobalt would've been an interesting proposition for sure, but what would've been the point. The car has no rally pedigree, as the Evo and WRX did, so the whole thing would've been moot.

if i remember, other than the idiot AWD system on the minivans, the only car to have an AWD system was a couple of years of the Pontiac 6000STE... and that was nothing really to get excited over. It was an MPFI 2.8L hooked to slushomatic. I want to say that the Bonneville might've but i don't think so. Their big selling point was the supercharged SSEi.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn;t there a Holden or Vauxhall variant of the Astra that was AWD? (The Astra, Cobalt, G5, Ion, Sky, Solstice and HHR all sit on the same platform- Delta) I have heard of swapping the drivetrain out of a Sky into a Cobalt and making it RWD as the hardpoints are all there... but I can't say with any certainty as I have never seen any evidence of it.

Some of the Aztecs and Rendezvous do, too... but it's the same system used on the minivans (Versatrak)

The AWD Caravans were scary to own, a lot of replacement parts were just plain old unheard of, AND if the vacuum line came off of the pods (mounted in a very vulnerable spot under the van), the front and rear wheels would try and turn opposite directions, which pretty much gutted the entire system at highway speeds.

the Versatrak wasn't THAT had, but it wasn't that great either. Like the anti-locks, it seems like it's trying to compensate for the very WORST drivers out there.

in the case of the Chryslers, more quality engineering you can believe in.

The AWD drive system in the Caravans was interesting. It was mostly designed to help out with traction in the snow. And its a really low cost design.

Local lot here had a 80's 944. Faded red with the black wheels. I'll never forget what he said when I asked him if it was fast. He said "Well, its not Ford Windstar fast but its half as useful for double the price". I never came closer to pissing myself while laughing.

Sky is Kappa, not Delta. There wasn't an AWD Delta that I know of. Not even the Astra VXR Nürburgring had AWD, and as far as I know, that was the "sportiest" car on the entire Delta line.
