| | | Posted by bandi I've had I think 7 speeding tickets. And 2 "Drawing Trailer Without Plate" fines, a few "Failure to carry insurance card" fines, one "Wrong plate for vehicle" fine... but I've been good lately. My latest (almost 2 years ago) was for doing 94 km/h in an 80 zone. I didn't even know there was a fine for that. I drive slow cars now. But I think I'm going to build something silly fast again soon.
| According to the infamous Ontario Highway Traffic Act: 128. (1) No person shall drive a motor vehicle at a rate of speed greater than, (a) 50 kilometres per hour on a highway within a local municipality or within a built-up area; (b) despite clause (a), 80 kilometres per hour on a highway, not within a built-up area, that is within a local municipality that had the status of a township on December 31, 2002 and, but for the enactment of the Municipal Act, 2001, would have had the status of a township on January 1, 2003, if the municipality is prescribed by regulation; (c) 80 kilometres per hour on a highway designated by the Lieutenant Governor in Council as a controlled-access highway under the Public Transportation and Highway Improvement Act, whether or not the highway is within a local municipality or built-up area; |

| | | heh, my first ticket was in a lowered S-10. Was for speeding though, damn thing was stupid fast and he clocked me at 86 in a 65. Although, I was able to get the fine lowered considerably because I was able to convince the judge the speedometer didn't work right and I didn't know how fast I was going. (Which was partially true) However, that truck has been sitting at the side of my yard with a blown engine for the past 9 months or so, and I'm contemplating selling it

| | | first ticket i ever got was going 45 in a 25 in Middlebury VT. Funny backstory to this (isn't there always). I had gotten done work at 12am (in middlebury ironically), driven over to New York and then out to Elizabethtown to this bar called the River Run on US 9 where I proceeded to tie one on. All my friends were out there and we had a grand time... Headly had too good a time and could barely stand up and wanted to drive home. He wouldn't take a ride from anyone so I agreed to follow him home (about 25 miles from Elizabethtown to Crown Point NY). So once I deposit Headly in his front yard, I decide it would be a fine idea to drive back to Middlebury and get gas... Keep in mind I am pretty buzzed and probably shouldn't have been driving a shopping cart let alone my Cavalier... So, I get into Middlebury, get gas and take off... this song comes on the mixtape, I think it was "Painkiller" by Judas Priest. Anyways, next thing i know, i am going 75-80mph in a 35 running through the gears. It was about 4am, so luckily no one was around... I go over one hill, realize I am going like hell and manage to get the car down to 45 just as i go over the next hill. Up the street, backed up on to the sidewalk is a Middlebury town cop... On come the blues. Here is where yours truly starts shitting eggrolls... I am 24 years old and shitfaced, driving a car with NY plates where that alone guarantees a ticket! So he walks up to the car and the whole time that little boy panicked voice is going "DON'T LOOK IN THE CAR DON'T LOOK IN THE CAR DON'T LOOK IN THE CAR!" He asks me why he stopped me. I told it was because i was going way too fast. By now, a VT State trooper has rolled up behind his car... Anyways, long story short and a pair of underwear later, I got the ticket and they never once asked me to get out of the car and do the field sobriety test... but that was the first, but NOT the last i ever got over there... i had enough tickets in Vermont to wallpaper a small room I lost my driving privileges over there 3 times. and what made that ok was the fact that at the time NY and VT did not have reciprocity... none of that shit was ever on my NY license.

| | | I think it would grow on me, especially with the 88 mpg or whatever it gets, and park anywhere. Looks like the designer has one of these for a pet. Great shots of the Soul, the first two could be an ad. They could prove to be a decent economy vehicle. AWD would be a good option, and reliability, maybe that will be okay. I read the manual trans was not inspiring. A good gearbox and decent engine is high priority. Subaru has made crummy manual trans in the past, I assume they are much better now, or the WRX crowd would be talking about it. I still can't get my head around buying a car made in Korea, but no offense on that. Something about Hyundais has never clicked, but the Tucson actually looks like it's worth a test drive. Turbo Diesel 5 speed would be a push in the right direction. I hate the look of the early Santa Fe. Someone/Skelly mentioned Renault styling. I like some of their out there push the envelope ideas. Maybe not this as an example for most, but it doesn't bother me. The name seems pompous in a funny way. Vel satis. The latest one actually looks amazing. /end rant/

| | | Ah, thank you for mentioning the Avantime, me and a friend were having a discussion over the ugliest car ever made and I lost because I couldn't remember what that monstrosity was called. As far as Renault styling in general, it seems rather blah, but I've always loved this gen of Clio V6: And on the front of Kia reliability...I've heard nothing but bad things about Kia reliability. My girlfriend and a very close friend of mine both have Kias, and both of theirs have ghosts in the electrical systems. Josh's is a '01 Sephia and Emily's is an '05 Optima. Josh's headlights quit working, unless he holds down the high beam stalk, and Emily's taillights come and go as they please. Sometimes she'll have all 3, sometimes just one, sometimes none. edit: details

| i didn't want to go here, but a few of my friends have Kia's and their long-term reliability does kind of suck. Mostly brakes, electrical and interior fit/finish. these were Kia Optima's and Spectra 5's. Sorry.
