I had a Kia Sportage in the shop last week (2001 I think)

Horribly underpowered, yes, but the thing is on a full frame, has a full manual 4x4 setup, and all the front end components are greasable. Not a lot to go wrong.

The president of my SAR Group, drives one. He's going to be buying a Jeep Grand Cherokee soon after he had the audacity of asking JC Whitney if they made a lift kit for it.

the kia you guys are talking about having reliability issues are of the past. i never wouldnt have even considered a kia from a few years ago let alone 10 years ago.
you could also find an example like that from any manufacturer though.
we'll see what happens in the long run.
so far im over 40,000 with no issues.

I know a few people who love their Kias... a few with older Rios, and have a couple friends with Fortes.

we had this douche in oakville who would sit outside the saturn dealer every day of the weekends for the entire day talking about how shitty his saturn was and why people shouldnt buy them.
the only reason hes not there anymore is because the saturn dealer is now gone.
he sat there every weekend for a few years. He needed to get over it and move on

i agree.
first off, her car was an 05 and the ones before that were older.
Kia DID NOT have a good reliability record until just a year or so ago... my only beef with Hyundai and Kia is just here in the states, and from what Skelly says, just the Northeast... i think they screw people on their warranties with an overabundance of fine print.
I think the Forte Koup and Genesis Coupe (despite me not liking the latter) are excellent looking cars. I do, however, feel that Hyundai trying to market the Genesis as a next gen ponycar may be a bit off.

other than that, enjoy your car, Haymaker... I recommend wheels and a some paint accent of some type.

I don't think you guys get it BUT

The 2011 Nissan Patrol.

Its predecessors were tough, live axle 4wd's very nice cars indeed.

The only patrolling it'll be doing is to the school and shops. All independent suspension, and it looks like a toyota kluger.

This is a sad day for 4wding, now only a handful of live axle 4wd's exist, mahindra, land rover etc and even toyota. The only hope is that the current Patrol (GU) will be sold alongside the new POS, like the Navara is.

Fish out.

thank samurai,
I have enjoyed it so far and hopefully will continue to.
But i made an agreement with my fiance that I wouldnt customize it in ANY way. now before i get murdered for making such an agreement let me explain.
the other part of that agreement is that I get to purchase another car after we get married in June. Thats when im getting either a classic beetle or another minitruck. either way, im going back to air ride.

We had a guy wearing a sandwich board saying "VW ripped me off" in front of our shop for a day... problem was, he had a '90 Jetta, and HE DIDN'T GET RIPPED OFF AT A GOD DAMNED VW DEALERSHIP! He was just pissed that his 20 year old car cost so much to fix/he was stupid enough to invest money into it.

I didnt have the pleasure of being at the shop for this event so Im retelling the story as I heard it.
but at the ford dealer i worked at a guy came in with a mustang with a giant lemon strapped to it and was eventually escorted off the property. well apparently he returned the next day furious because someone stole the giant lemon over night from his car.

Too bad they put the squeeze on his protest plans. Welcome zeteckiller, good to have some more Irish representation here. Too bad Renault seems to be getting sloppy. (probably not the first time :P) One of the oldest automakers, and has made some important contributions though.

Sportage lift kit, lol. Their early Florida commercials were fun though. Fugly cars? Here's my vote, at least in the top ten:

Oh yeah, I couldn't beleive he actually called up JC Whitney and they gave him a straight "no sir we don't have that for your Sportage" instead of "ARE YOU FUCKING CRAZY?"

Even some of our 4x4 guys who love to fabricate stuff took a look to see if they could make something from other 4x4s and they could not find anything reasonable without making it look like Bigfoot.

its simple, just like a samurai, cut the existing suspension off, make some brackets, mount toyota axles front and rear with chevy springs, easy peasy

you do realize that there are people out there who find putting gas in their car/truck a challenge, right?

But he did get a dual cassette in dash stereo, 3 cb radios, a dixie horn and a sweet light up gorilla hood ornament.
