There's that, too. I forget which comedian it was, but he said Christian should LOVE Jews for killing Jesus, because if they didn't, Jesus would have never risen, etc. It might have been George Carlin.
Sarah Silverman had a great bit about it too. It was in Jesus is Magic.

besides everything, Jesus was a Jew. He did not found Christianity, despite what I was told in Catholic school. If anything he probably resents Christians as the first thing they did was kill a bunch of people in his name. http://www.plyrics...ellforthisone.html
The sign said "Anybody caught trespassin will be shot on sight" So I jumped on the fence and I yelled at the house, "Hey! What gives you the right?" http://www.flickr.com/photos/evman/

Posted by splumer I think it's the whole martyrdom thing. It doesn't really make sense to me, either.
Once you realize how much of the bible is lifted from other peoples religions it makes alot more. Deification through martyrdom was the big thing long before Jesus. Ask the Egyptians And the Sumerians And the Babylonians And...(this list is long and goes everywhere)
Moral-give the people what has always worked before.

I hear the Jihads feel pretty strongly about that sort of thing too.

Nah, that's salvation through martyrdom. You just get to go hang out with god and his flock of hot chicks. Though why anyone would want virgins is beyond me. I'll take a couple of hot bi girls that know what they're doing over three score and twelve noobs any day.

Out of 72, yeah, I'd take a few virgins, but I'd prefer the majority to be, well... experienced.

Yeah, but those noobs are all 13 years old.
