I'm with you on this. The ES and the Shelby with the pop ups was OK... but the base model with no spoiler or ground effects looked like fuck pie.

And the pop ups on them NEVER worked. I don't think I ever had a 2nd gen Daytona that they worked on.

Interestingly enough, if you popped the nose off a 2nd gen, it still had 4 headlight buckets in behind and the 1st gen nose would attach. LeBarons were the same, and I always kinda wanted to make a 1st gen Daytona convertible.

Strange. I bought an 88 Daytona 5 years ago, and after a month hydroplaned and crashed it about 40-50mph into a concrete wall while getting on the highway, and both flip up lights still worked and the car still drove. I had to cut part of the bent up front grille so the light would clear it but they still worked.

This, mine was identical except for the wheels, I had turbines and later some shitty prime tri-fans, never ages for me. I loved the interior, the little shelf on the dash, and I thought the body was great. The LX didn't do it for me, but the GT just seemed like what the Mustang should have been all along. Light, nimble, cheap, and fast if you had an extra $50 to throw at it.
