Is the poop deck really what I think it is?
| | Construction worker dead after falling from Toronto building (Aura) < on 8/23/2013 6:18 PM >
| | | Source: http://www.thestar...onto_building.html
The Toronto fire department says a construction worker has died after plunging 55 floors off a downtown building. Capt. Mike Strapko says the man was on the 70th floor of a building (at 388 Yonge Street) when he fell off it around noon, dropping 181 metres before landing on the 15th floor rooftop of an adjacent building. Strapko says the man was found a distance of 24 metres away from the building he fell from. Strapko says police and emergency officials are at the scene. He says the Ministry of Labour has been called in to investigate. |

| | | Another sad death. I've been in high-rise construction for years and it kills me when a brother dies. Just 1 month ago another worker died less then 1000 meters North. This is 2013, there should be ZERO deaths in construction. That's just my opinion. Be safe out there!

| | | He landed on the roof of an adjacent building. I guess wind pushed him a considerable distance away. http://imgur.com/a/LnJUY The orange thing on the roof of the building is a tarp covering where he landed. Several people saw police escorting a man from the building in handcuffs shortly after the incident, no mention of this in the news.

| | | I work in construction as well and I hate hearing this kind of news. From what I heard on the news, a safety line snapped but I'll wait to hear the official report. In this day and age, all accidents should never happen in the first place.

| | | It's a shot from 2011 and I don't think is relevant to this particular accident.

When I read this I wanted so badly to tell you what a fucking moron and idiot you are. But then I reigned myself in and decided that you'd probably take offense to it, since you already didn't understand where he was coming from when he posted that, despite what the date on the picture is.
Anyone who works in a construction-type industry and works at heights tends to feel the weight of the situation whenever a fellow worker dies. Rest in peace.

Reading about this as an accident is bad enough, I sure hope there wasn't more to it. It's awful either way. RIP. [last edit 8/25/2013 4:31 AM by Air - edited 1 times]

I just thought that the photo that particular news source used to illustrate this tragedy was a little bit misleading, especially in the mobile version that did not show the caption (which read the photo was from 2011). Most who read that article on the Post would have thought the platform gave way, resulting in the man's death. That makes me a moron and an idiot.

The point of the article isn't the picture, the point is that a guy died. The picture is indicative of the environment he was working in. Whether it was the ACTUAL picture of where he fell from or not, it doesn't detract from what happened, or for people to look at it and to be mindful of being careful. The picture isn't the story.
