| | | Posted by arntzville Sorry but this is just a dillhole mentality. Get over yourself. People have their own aesthetic sensibilities and aren't even necessarily aware of whatever expensive jerkoff cameras you think the world needs to revolve around.

You can find Twin Lens Reflexes for under a hundred dollars.... As I said, the pictures are really nice. I just think since the square format is associated so strongly with medium format that trying to emulate instead of putting in a little bit of effort in trying to get the real thing is kind of lazy. And of course that is all opinion.

I think the emulation would have to start with the desire to shoot in that ratio with a conscientious effort to replicate the results of a 6x6 camera specifically. That being said its kind of snobby to tell someone they're coping out for using the most favorable crop for their composition and call it lazy because they didn't capture it on a device that's limited to that specific ratio by design.

Oh my apologies for forgetting to thank everyone like I do in almost all my other threads. But luckily the UER police caught me!
But anyways, thank you for the kind words everyone I hope you all can forgive me in my forgetfulness

The only reason I say that is because, when someone crops to square they are trying to emulate cameras like a Hasselblad or other 6x6 format cameras and personally I feel like if someone wants a square image they should do it with one of those cameras.
|
Yeah, no. I understand that's your view but I'm not trying to emulate anything. Like I said I enjoy the 1x1 crop and other types of crops that aren't the standard of the digital camera. I forgot that it's not okay to be creative and differ from the norm... I don't need to have a medium format camera to shoot 1x1 I personally think that's just a ridiculous argument to try and make, but to each his own.

Posted by civilised worm Cool shots but cropping to square when shooting digital always seems like a copout
|
"Square" is in no way a "copout", on my RZ67 I sometimes shoot a 6x6 or 1:1 "square" shot. Its another style and by no means a "cop out" Some cameras only shoot in "Squares" Keep doing what you're doing SS!

| | | purists like to see the whole image as shot in the camera edge to edge. Any cropping might make the viewer think, How much else got cropped out? Did the photographer really know what he was composing during the shot or did he decide afterwards? I mean, I really don't give a shit and I crop stuff all the time but...
Shots are awesome btw [last edit 11/30/2013 12:46 AM by Adv.Pack - edited 1 times]
