| | | Hey Kakesu, The reason I said sprints instead of long-distance jogging is pretty much what TheRev said.. Although I do train a lot of other ways to improve cardio, even the top-level marathon runners incorporate what's called "interval training". Basically, you jog for a minute, then sprint for 15 seconds, jog 2 minutes, sprint 30 seconds, jog 3 minutes, sprint 45 seconds -- and so on until you nearly fall over. You eventually develop such incredible aerobic capacity that you can sprint pretty much as long as you want. The name of the game is increased endurance with a focus on speed. Sprints will improve your lung capacity either way and my endurance certainly hasn't suffered. Seeing as how most emergency situations won't last much more than 30-60 seconds, my focus is on speed and power - not running marathons.

| | | I'm five-eight and weigh two-hundred-fifty pounds. I can also pick up the back end of a car. So I've got a little bit of strength. I'm not that great at running, but when the adrenaline is going I think I could do just about anything.

Welcome to the club. I'm 6'1 and 260 lbs. I have no stamina and I can't run, but I can lift really heavy stuff and bash through doors that nobody else could, which helps a bit in exploration. Though I definetly can't lift a car.

A bit of endurance can be a help. I've bean in some situations where I had to sprint at first, then level off to a fast run, stop, and then do it again several times. Good endurance from long runs will help in your recovery more than just doing sprints alone. The idea of doing both together as mentioned earlier is a good advice, although I prefer more work on the sprinting side.

| | | I remember watching a marathon once. The top runner's training regime consisted of sprinting a mile, jogging a quarter mile, sprinting a mile, walking a quarter mile and so on for 20 or 30 miles a day. Your heart rate is up the whole time so it's aerobic, but it will train your body to deal with variable situations and problems.

| | | One of our UER members just got done running the Boston Marathon... I've always had (/have) a pushup and situp regime, but my days of being an athlete are long over. We were arguably the best conditioned high school wrestling team in the state of Minnesota in 2001, but now I'm wrapping up my third year of college and it's starting to show . I took up bag training, but all my stuff's at home so I only get to use it in the summers. It's more of a stress reliever than anything else anyways. You'd be surprised at the results you can get from just your basic pushup/pullup/situp exercises if you stick with them. There's a great abdominal workout I found on the internet a few years ago that I still use parts of, poke around and find something that fits you.

And then after a a month 99% of the population will develope stress fractures, thus putting them in an air cast. Man, I wish I had the ability/willpower to pull off that sort of training.

HA! Me too. Between asthma, arthritic knees and just generally being out of shape I'm happy if I can run a few miles at a regular pace!

| | | Ok try this one-- I am 5' 11'' and weigh 170 pounds, I can run (parkour sure helps) and bash trough a door like any 250 pound guy heh, anyways on to the workout... I do 75 push ups x 3 reps a day same for crunches. also if you have access to a gym, try some dips/ pull ups and chest crossovers are very good for hauling your ass up onto things. And for grip (forearms) take a heavy weight (70-90 pounds) and use the tips of your fingers kinda roll it up into your hand. I don't work my legs much as the parkour takes charge of that. this may be a time consuming workout; but it is really good for UE / Parkour

You seriously do 225 push ups a day? I kinda dabble in Parkour, and I can see that helping a lot. Something to aim for I guess. Btw, got any tips for improving cat leaps?

Yeah, stress fractures happen. I've trained through them and they suck, but if you ease off enough when you first notice them, you'll be fine. A great fix for stress fractures is to improve calf muscle endurance with long bouts of rope skipping. It added an inch around both my calfs and the stress fracture symptoms are gone... ;)

Skip rope, run up stairs/use a stairmaster, and dance to some crazy conga trance music. Chin-ups are always good for building up your chest so you can climb fences, using only your arms, with a rottweiler on either leg and a midget security guard around your neck. Voice of experience. | | | I'm a theater technician ... for other theater technicians that's 'nuff said ... there is this stairway in our theater we call "the mountain" that is 57 stairs. During an average run of a show, I'd bet I do the mountain 9 or more times, up and down. We also do a lot of ladder climbing, hang off of the heights and things ... it's a fun time...when I'm not UE'ing I either am or want to be in the theater. ~Grit.
