| | | It could of been a lot better if more people showed up. I got there 15 minutes early... but I still expected one or two people to talk to that early. Nobody at that time, came back 5 minutes after 1 and met Polyester. Jono, Lost Flock and Cheesemaster followed and we had a good afternoon of exploring in the area. It was really nice meeting you guys, the second place we went to was fun Hopefully next time the attendance will be better.
... oh I got a bad sunburn as well.

| | | Anyone think having 2 meets a month would be a good idea? Seems the single one is always a day I can't make it, which sucks. Having another one 2 weeks later will increase my chances of being able to make it to one. Anyone else have that problem? Just a idea...

That'd be pretty good, as long as a few people show up for both events.

Well.. yea. I would volunteer to orginize a 2nd meet... but I already tried that with the original meet. Yeah there were UE Meets before I came along.. indeed. but I set up and orginized a regular monthly toronto meet.. and Infact I came to a verbal agreement with avatar where he agreed that I should orginize the regular monthly UE Meets, because he didn't have enough time to do so because he was too busy with the site... sure he'll probably deny it because it was verbal and there is no proof that I can provide to back this up, but whatever. Also, for the record, Av suggested to me that I should move the location from a original meet location a better location... HE Consulted me.. because we had a agreement that I orginized the meets... But apparently the hard work, and days of planning I would put into the adventures after a meet went un-noticed. Even after I invited the meetup group and other "non-uer" explorers to come to this meet, so that people could socialize... after all of that hard work.. and the dedication to making meets enjoyable for everyone... the powers at UER have taken away one of the only things that kept me interested in Exploring. nightbird suggested I setup and orginize the 2nd meet... and I laughed at her, snapping back that I've already been down that road. and this inspired me to write this reply. Apparently people here at UER don't appreciate planning and the dedication that I put into such events... This is the message I am getting... so therefore I won't do any roadtrips or events of any sort... except with people who actually appreciate the work i put into such explorations. I really don't care what anyone thinks of me... I just don't like lies and I don't like dishonesty - that pisses me off...

Problems with credit for the meets aside, I think this may be an idea worth exploring. What does everybody think?

Only thing I was a bit annoyed with in the last meet was the low attendance. Every meet in Toronto I've gone to I enjoyed however and I meet some really nice people. I appreciate that someone goes to the trouble of organizing it. Believe me, I know how hard it can be on a smaller level. I've organized the past meets in Hamilton, which can be really difficult because the attendance is almost always insanely low. Sometimes I feel its a waste of my time and someone else should do it... but if I don't, nobody will. There's not much initiative. It was still worth my time every single meet however... I met new explorers in the area and even made some friends outside of the hobby. Friends that I would kick my self in the ass if I'd never met. This reminds me, I have to get to putting the next meet up on the events page. I should probably do that today or something lest the masses get on my ass. I hope you don't stop planning these events Roadwolf... its the only way I get to meet explorers outside of Toronto and do some exploring in my home city.

| | | See, that is the thing. Sometimes things come up and people can't make it, but having another one soon after might help with that. And even plans sometimes just don't mesh. Roadwolf, I enjoyed being out with you and Av and the rest a while back, but the next excursion was a bit much for me. I appreciate the effort and all, to head out at 4am, but I am just not up to waking up that early anymore. That being said, if you are ever doing another trip that allows me to awake after the sun, I am in. And if you organize a meet and I am able to be there, I will be there. Or should we just make it some sort of regular occurance, that needs no real organization. Maybe just have a standing time and place, every Saturday at noon at Place X. If you are looking to meet folks or find exploration partners, you spin by. If no one is there, no one is there. But if people are there, they get to meet and hopefully get out together. That takes a lot of pressure of off people, and allows them to do what they want without feeling like their efforts are wasted. I have not been here as long as many and I feel a lot of tension here. It seems there are fractures everywhere and I am not sure why. Trying to get people together may help, not sure, but it seems like a plan. It might make it worse, as people may not get along in person, but I have a feeling that more interaction between people is probably a good thing. More cents from me, let's hear others. Glad this thread is continuing, good to get the ideas out there [last edit 8/1/2005 6:13 PM by lopix - edited 1 times]

It already is at the same location every month and the same time, I don't see why someone needs to organize these meets, its not like half the time we don't just wing it and end up exploring some random building anyways. Its not like we haven't had meets before with even less organization than we do now with out having some head organizer in charge which in some cases turned out better than the meets now and days have been going.

Two a month would be cool but sometimes its good to explore with out the massive group... this is where low attendance comes in, its a real bummer yes when no one shows up. But you can't have a meet with 20 - 30 people every time. Just say something like every 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month are UE meet ups plug it into the events and SHOW UP. If no one shows up? Its a darn shame, but it happens.
Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you. |

| | | I'm not sure what the point of Roadwolf's post was -- I don't recall any conversation about labeling him the "official organizer" of the Toronto meets, because that would go against the spirit of the meets (which is simply supposed to be a bunch of people getting together to talk and explore). All of the meets in the past, and including all of the ones at Liberty Village were community events, attended by members of the community, and what to talk about and where to go was decided by the attendees, not by some organizer. I removed Roadwolf's access from modifying the Event listed in the Events section because he wrote "hosted by roadwolf" in a few places, which wrongly gives the impression that he is the sole owner and organizer of the meets and should receive any and all credit. UE meets aren't about credit, they are supposed to be about having a good time. If Roadwolf wants to have a meet called "Roadwolf's Meet", in which he is the sole organizer and he decides everything, that's fine by me. But I don't appreciate him taking over the official Toronto meets. -av
