Concrete Central, Buffalo, NY

From a project I just started working on. I spent the better part of Friday afternoon exploring the top of Concrete Central. For what it's worth, the "Mayor's Impact Team" was cleaning up the weeds along Smith St (how I usually get there) and someone painted an amazing mural of the view from that park. I'll have to get a picture of the mural up later.

Yea, Cargill does offer a better view but I haven't been to the top of it since the late 80s. It took me a while to figure out how to get to the top of Concrete without killing myself. Once up there, the concrete is a bit sketchy in some places.

A few of us were there a week or so ago and couldn't for the life of us figure out a way up. Did it involve the building with no access from the 1st floor to the 2nd?

well, without going into too much detail, the river side is a bit more accessible.

I assume that you climbed up the remains of the steps in the marine legs.

I was kinda hoping that wasn't the only way up top. But somehow I knew it was...

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

Likewise.

I think I may need to procure a harness for this.

Or you could just go to some of the other ones in the city that still have stairs.

well now what you said makes more sense, because when we were going to go up you said we probably couldn't bring tripods. I was just like "I don't understand, why not?!" Now I get it!

My great grandfather worked at Concrete Central and I actually found a bunch of his paystubs recently.

Though I am trying to picture when stairs were there, how he could stand going up those stairs all day...

Far as I know Concrete Central had no Belt-o-vator, but I could be wrong. And if it did, my Great Grandfather was probably the person who removed it in the end

I saw no trace of a belt-o-vator.

Leaving a site partially explored leaves me frustrated. I know there are other elevators with easier access, however I want to finish what I started at CC.

well, as far as tripods go, it all depends. I had several cameras, lenses, etc in a biggish messenger style bag along with a tripod strapped on it. It was a touch difficult maneuvering and I'll probably use a backpack next time.

And the frame of the marine leg has plenty of easily climbed portions that are a lot less risky than the remains of the stairs.
