Cars...your input please.

I'm somewhat new to the whole ue scene, i've just discovered that there was a whole subculture to the hobby i've been into forever. me and a few friends have been going on missions to some local bunkers and we've had some trouble with parking, and i realized this will come up alot. i'm pretty sure a cop got my liscence plate last run...
so i'm just looking for some tips on how to make my sticker-covered distinctive car blend in.

I'd say the best solution is to park on the side of the road maybe a mile away and leave the car looking like its broken down. Maybe pop the hood(if your not worried about a stolen battery or anything). Most people wont really bother a broken down car.

Take off the stickers! No, seriously, that is why I don't have any stickers on my car (other than my school affiliation). I had a friend who had a truck almost just like mine, similar color and everythihg, except he had several stickers on his back window...Beastie Boys, and a couple others that I can't remember. He got pulled over by the cops all the time. Finally he figured it might be the stickers and he took them off. Lo and behold he stopped getting pulled over. As sad as it is, band stickers just scream "punk ass ne'er-do-good kid" to cops...or such has been my experience.

Or if you don't wanna take off the stickers, well, I've never had any troublems with where I leave my car and I'm quite obvious about where I park. I think for the most part it's just paranoia. And as for the cop taking your plate number...there is nothing illegal about parking your car. If a cop took your plates, he did so because the car was parked in an odd place and he thought it was a hot car that had been dumped. After dispatch tells him it's not stolen, he probably drove off without another thought.

And welcome to the forum by the way.

i've thought of putting up a "for sale" sign on it and just leaving it on the side of the road. thanks for the warm welcome

the bunkers are in a little massachusetts town, they're left over from world was II i believe. it was a missle base i think (correct me if i'm wrong) the place has been used as a party spot since my dad was a kid, there's LOTS of graffitti but it is really extensive there's alot to see, lots of subtunnels upon subtunnels...definatly worth the trip if you're in the area. it was one of the first places i've explored, so i have a fondness to it. there's another bunker in another town that is close to that, those are harder to get into but still really badass.

happy exploring

We used to take unassuming cars and just leaved them parked one the side of the road a few blocks away, but I think doing that is what allmost got a nailed really bad one time. Now if we go someplace we try to find some kind of office or resturant and park nearby. I guess what you can get away wtih all depends on where your goin. For example the place we went today we just parked the truck outside the gates and walked in. It helps having the right vehicle too, like there is no way wed take our bright yellow mustang.
I dunno if any of you have a vehicle you dont care too much about, my one friend had a green explorer that they used to run right into the woods and cover with branches, even they had problems finding it sometimes.
I have allso head of allot of people buyin a dual sport(motorized street/dirt bike) or somthing like that for cheap. Its great for scouting, can easily outrun security or somthing, and can be tucked into the woods or somthing outa sight easily.

I just had to chime in on this one. If you leave your car near by your probably on some record. At least the owner of the car is. If they can pinpoint that car in a area during the time a house was vandalized kiss your butt good bye. That also means if they figure out it was vandalized a week after you have been there they have a good idea you were there. Not that you did the vandalizing but thats the assumption.

I'll forgo the tricks that crooks use, however here are some tips to stay ok that werent covered.

It is nice to have a camo net that fits over your vehicle. One camo net and some tree branches can make a red car disapear. Not the best way to do things but it works.

Of cource you can walk in which is always smart but remeber if this place has been hit before the cops can figure out the easist path there. Hence if your car is in a parking lot at say ohh 3am then they may go check out the building. Or at least check the path up

Finally the biggest thing check your car for anything wrong. Lights exsaust anything that a cop can and will pull you over for. Say they see your car they may pull you over later if your tail light is out. Hence how most real criminals are busted.

I say your best bet is hiding in plain sight. Like when your looking for the milk and the damn cartons right in front of you and you look for it for 5 minutes. Lol back onto the topic. Try parking at some place thats open 24 hours if theres a place nearby. Wal-mart would be a great place, just park your car and go on your way.

My words of advice: When parking somewhere, day or night, park near other cars. If I had followed that advice one time I probably wouldn't have gotten 'busted' before I even got any exploring done.

i hate cars, but thats just me. i think its alot better to be on foot if youre ever chased, as you dont have to worry about the car's ability to further distingish you from everyone else. i pack light and take public transit when possible, although ill admit there are times when thats not possible. in these cases, ill agree with everyone else: park with other cars and walk a bit. better still: have someone drop you off.

I'm a hide-in-plane-sight type when it comes to cars. If there is parking at the site in question, I use it. I'll even make use of the handicapped spot if there is one (I have a valid Ontario handicapped tag). Seems everyone that sees this assumes you must belong there, otherwise you would be taking some effort to make your vehicle less noticable.

Get ahold of a red Dodge Neon. Those peices of.... er, well, their everywhere. No one would suspect one, and if you needed to make a getaway, they could get confused easily. This is true for my area, atleast. This is an option for me, a good one. My mom has a red Dodge Neon that I would much rather take than my Buick Skylark (with half a rear bumper I might add.) The Buick wou be so easy to point out as opposed to the neon.

<reuben> somebody keeps jiggling the doorknob on my front door, then running away
<reuben> i don't know if i should call the police, or hook up some electricity to the doorknob
<cristobal> why don't you put ice on the stairs <cristobal> and heat up the door knob <cristobal> and swing paint buckets down from your two story foyer <cristobal> then a few years later, fade from the public eye.....

If you're not too bothered about keeping the value of your car, you could always try a camo respray, or camo netting (the stuff game hunters use). You'd be suprised how easy it is to walk right past a well camoflaged vehicle. Especially if you aren't on the lookout for such things.

Another way of hiding your car, is to literrally drive it into an openish bush, and then get out. Nothing too thick mind, but just enough to take it out of view of rubbernecking cops.

DONT SPRAY PAINT YOUR CAR! It calls the attention of everyone on the road. Also the cops will think your illegally hunting or something like that. However Camo netting is great even on read cars. Also a green car cover will work well to. Just GPS where your car is at night or you will have to run into it to find it.

Get a bright yellow car! Or paint it yellow. It'll stick out like such a sore thumb that it would be considered extremely too obvious for anyone to park "that thing" infront of a building to "break into" it. It has worked for us in the past.

Sometimes being so overly obvious is a good thing. The cops will think it's so out of place that there is no way the owners of it are doing anything wrong. A cop finding a car covered in camo net (or some other covering) on the side of the road is going to tip them off that something is amiss.

Stealthy is something the worst thing...

Oh come on man that didn't make any sense! Stealth is always a good thing, because the idea of stealth is not being seen.
