| | | I guess it's too late, but I question the need for visiting this site at all. It's 1) clearly not abandoned 2) an important part of the infrastructure 3) potentially dangerous Why not just go all the way and try infiltrating the White House? Also, I'm curious what you ended up wearing. If it were me I would've worn grey clothes and brought a clipboard. Much better than dressing up all in black and being mistaken for a Satanic cultist. I learnt long ago wearing black to camouflage yourself at night is a bad idea. We used to play hide-and-seek-in-the-dark in my best friend's back yard. I wore grey and he wore black, and even in the darkness he was a very visible black object.

| | | i actually did end up wearing grey, plus a kakhi hat with a wide brim all the way around, to disguise my face from the cameras. no clipboard though. just my hip pack with camera

Since when does urban exploration only involve exploring abandonments?

I stand corrected, but an active power station just seems like a bad choice. A water treatment plant would be cool though.

Sewer plant maybe, but a drinking water intake or treatment facility is higher on the target watch list than power stations perhaps; it's hot. Worse some of the unused older facilities are around and some are in good shape as well as having more character rather that bland modern utilitarian look. These are generally perfectly 911 "safe" as long as it's not still a water intake point. All cops and leos are strongly urged by the DHS to report incidents to the DHS if arrests or detentions are made. The DHS will follow through and at minimum interview those arrested from all I've heard. There could easily be a whole lot more, or less in place as well depending on location and just dumb luck. A cakewalk with not even an alarm, or a hornet nest's from hell with a smart camera network that's all weather capable, actively manned. It alerts them only if someone breaches specified targets zones and/or conforms to targeted parameters such as face ID, vehicle tag number, model of car... some are very sophisticated.
Just when I thought I was out... they pulled me back in. |

| | | Luckily if I ever explored a site like that it would be in Canada where you don't get shipped off to East Europe for trespassing. It still doesn't even seem smart, but one time I got a chance to legally go exploring in a water treatment plant. I used to be friends with a girl who was working an internship in a water treatment plant. She had free rein to walk around anywhere she wanted, and once when she was mad at me she took me on a tour and told me "I could dump your body in there and they'd never find it."

The body thing is pretty much true. There's inches of slimy muck at the bottom of water tanks most times. Can anyone smell you slowly decaying in 20 million gallons of chlorinated water? Prolly not. Getting permission also means you can freely use the pictures as you please without any repercussions plus find out more history and facts of the site. The only drawback is you maybe disallowed from taking potentially dangerous shots were you could fall or be hurt. Not always though, sometimes they just turn you loose with a "have fun!"
