Hi there...I see from your blog you have a lot of information on historic Barrie. In light of today's fire, can you meet me today for an interview for A Channel News @ Six? I would need to meet between 2-4 PM today.
Please call if you get this message, even if you can't meet i'd love to ask you some questions.

Hmmmm… I was hoping for on-camera.
How bout this…I introduce you, by name, as a “barrie history buff” who “writes a blog about barrie’s urban development”
And we don’t mention the illegal urban exploration….we don’t give the URL that connects you to your unauthorized activities. (unless you want me to)
What do you think? I’m on a pretty tight deadline, I’d love to meet you downtown ASAP and do a brief (15 mins tops) on camera.
I’m in a pinch, you’d really be helping me out.

. . . sorry you're out of luck here

Located on the north west side of five-points across the street from the Simcoe Hotel, the original hotel located here was destroyed by fire in 1876. It was rebuilt by Thomas Summersett, proprietor, as the Summersett Hotel, and latter became known as the Wellington Hotel. The building's windows have flattened arches on the second floor, and round arches on the third. This boxy commercial building has suggestions of an Italianate style. Riviera Pizza & Pasta House and Royal Thai Cuisine currently share this location with apartments above.
Speaking of Fires . . .

Barrie was once said to be, in newspapers of the time to be one of the 'best burnt' towns in the dominion. These extensive fires were due in large part to the all wood construction of the buildings until a brickworks located here.

Some major fires of note with the loss of dozens of buildings during each conflagration -
24 June, 1871 - the Glebe block (south of Dunlop, west of Market),
31 January, 1873 - the Boys block, west of the engine house,
8 February, 1873 - north side of Dunlop Street from Owen Street westward,
27 July, 1876 - Wellington Hotel block
18 April, 1880 - Crompton block

I'm confused as well. You could use your real name, history buff, and not mention the website and there would be no connection.

Police officers have better things to do then catch trespassers and set them up.

I know copy-6 is religious about his Take only photo's... leave only foot prints motto. The guy carries a plaque with him.

Plus all his exploration is a result of "bird watching" gone horribly wrong.

Fire officials described the blaze as one of the worst in decades. At least six buildings were destroyed, among them the landmark Wellington Hotel.

Coun. Jeff Lehman told CTV Newsnet the hotel's destruction comes as a great loss to the city.

"It's the historic centre of the downtown. That is a great loss and there are some stores to the north and to the west that have also been gutted," he said Friday.

They got someone to say the soundbite they needed anyways.

Copy6 is too ugly for TV....

Actually there are quite a few of us on this here internets that Al Gore invented that prefer to stay anonymous due to our careers and such.

I called the reporter. She indicated that she really needed a local history buff to talk about how this was not the first time this location burned.

I really wanted to help her out and gave her all the historical details she needed but told her that even with a disconnect from the blog, the details I would give on-camera would draw strong similarities to the information on the blog.

Google search terms (Barrie, Wellington Hotel) brings my post to the top and thusly too easy to draw comparatives. Even Google image search is drawing too much attention.

Plus, as Mutt personally knows, I fell out of the Fugly Tree and hit every branch on the way down . . .

Come on...

Police officer:

" Dear sir,
Due to your huge collection of pictures of old factories and abandoned places, we will be forced to arrest you and threaten you with legal action. It is one of the worse crime ever, we had been looking after you for a long time. At least now we will be free of these pictures... "

Anyway as you said, only by searching the name of the hotel on google, your blog popped amongst the first hits.

If the police really cared that much about what we were doing, I think they would've contacted you by now. Or any of us for that matter.

Enough with the fucking police shit already. It's fucking Barrie, not Vice Squad. The OPP has better things to do.

I saw about this horrible fire this morning on CHCH. It really grabbed onto my heart even though I've never seen any of those buildings. That hotel looked beautiful.

I feel more sorry for the estimated 50 people who lost their apartments/housing in the blaze. It sucks when you lose all your worldly possessions in one swift swoop. Some of these people said they had pets that didn't make it out alive.

Also some people just don't like talking to the media. Whatever guys it's his call.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

It's true. I have a hard time balancing the effort / reward on it. I was contacted by several different reporters in the lead-up to stack demolition at Lakeview, but my experience there didn't seem to me like a good fit for what they were looking for, at the time I didn't have much more to say about it than what was on my site, and it would have been a lot of effort on my part for nothing more than "as seen on TV."

I'll probably do a couple of stories with print journalists in the new year, when I have some more time, but they'll be on my terms. My policy is talk to the media every 4-6 months, just long enough of a gap to forget how much I don't enjoy it.

Well, that and 2) No More Radio.
