| | | GREAT intact abandoned hotel < on 1/27/2008 6:56 PM >
| | | I stumbled upon an abandoned hotel this weekend while fruitlessly searching for another abandoned hotel. This one was undoubtedly 100 X cooler than the one I never found. Some parts still had electricity on, every room intact, and its HUGE. Security was leaving just as I was parking 400m away. My camera battery died about 3/4 into the exploration which was a huge bummer, but I'm definitely going back (and with industrial flashlights and possibly a mask)
The place definitely does not photograph well; meaning it looks 10 X cooler in real life. A real treasure found!

| | | Good for you! This is the kind of stuff that's most awesome, not visiting the same places over and over but actually doing something new. What the heck is that little human figure?
You betcha |

| | | This place looks pretty cool. some of the shots make it look like its being demo'd.
40+ year olds with Myspace pages are not cool, they are pediphiles on the prowl. Buyer beware. |

Weirdest thing. I was climbing steps in the parking garage and I looked out the window and there was, strategically placed by perhaps other explorers, a man made of piping? laying there. Those are my favourite exploration moments; finding something you think may have been placed there by a fellow explorer (but maybe not, who knows?) because they know future folks will appreciate it. But not to cross the line of spoiling a site, of course.

Oh, it is. I forgot to mention that... I meant intact in that it soon will be gone, maybe within a few months. I think I caught it at a perfect time. I like a little destruction.

Now that's a dead giveaway! Everytime I drive by this place, it seems real eerie to me. Wish I had the chance to check things out before it's gone, but I doubt that will happen.

Really? Well, first, thanks! There was one security car which left just in time. I will go back and hopefully be just as lucky.

| | | wow that wikipedia article needs serious correction. Its being torn down because Hyatt will be building an hotel/convention center and the whole area will be demolished, not renovated.

| | | Nice photos bud! As far as I've heard (infamous "word on the street, yo") is that Po-Po Tac was performing forced-entry training in here at some point in the last few months; akin to the forced-entry training we discovered in the Eastman Kodak facility. Doors blown off hinges, shell casings everywhere... it was hot. *mourns Kodak* That's what I've heard, althought truthfully I haven't made my way up to this location yet. Did you see anything that would confirm this? Usually alrge blast marks surrounding room doors and a door several feet removed from where it should be is the best indication.

The doors (and some walls) and blast type damage over a year ago, including what they did in the parkade, which was this past fall. I wonder what type of damage existed, if any 2-3 years ago. [last edit 2/7/2008 3:15 PM by Air - edited 1 times]

That's very interesting.. and yeah, I think there are definitely some wrecks which don't look like your regular demolition. There are hole blasts through walls, lots of caving in...didn't see any shell casings, lots of cookbooks though. You should definitely make your way there. It looks like I got really lucky with my visit. I went on a Saturday afternoon (pretty bait?) and was in there a pretty long time.

| | | Snowstorm BasementMania '08!!! http://www.youtube...atch?v=_CFgDYJOsrs It's getting more and more ragged every time I see it. Last summer, the wine cellars were intact, and still stocked. Now? Well... As you see... And if you want to drop by, make sure you wear some of them big, rubber fisherman's pants. Pretty much the entire basement is flooded. (Melting snow, I suppose.) And please be careful: Under the water, it's mostly ICE. [last edit 3/9/2008 11:46 PM by Magnoodles - edited 1 times]

| | | when they shut off the power to a building, the sump or ground-water pumps can no longer pump out the water from around the foundation. ground water (even in the winter) will seep into and floods the basement.
They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn! |
