| | Why Do People Get Banned? < on 6/25/2008 7:38 PM >
| | | I noticed the banlist (which I don't have access to). Just wondering what are some of the basic things people get banned for? I doubt it's for getting in an online flame war, so maybe it's something more serious like arson in hidden locations or something equally as bad? I just thought it was kind of weird that people that have been here for years (even moderators) are on the banlist. That seems kind of counterproductive to building a community of explorers. I'd think you'd have to be pretty naughty to end up there... or is it really about politics and such (piss off the wrong moderator for something small and silly, get banned kinda thing)?

Does anybody really read the TOS on any website they visit? Come on now. Plus, this isn't me looking to get banned. I'm a pretty cool and laid back dude. I was just truly curious about why people who have been here for 5 years or so and respected moderators, all of a sudden banned. I can understand noobs getting banned more than I can a dude who has been contributing to this site for 3 to 5 years. Seems rather odd no? 5 years, exploring, contributing sites, sharing and then bam...on the shitlist? I've seen this happen only in the Mafia and other Prison Gangs. People put in all this work for their organization only to get on the shitlist after they mess up on one little thing. This thread is purely curiousity however.

Who are you referring to? You should know that just because someone was banned doesn't mean their number stars do not continue increasing. Other than that, the only recent banning I can think of is BB, but he was neither respected or a moderator, though he considered himself to be both. The people who have been bad did screwy things. Mainly act like an ass. Don't act like an ass or violate the TOS, then you'll be fine... Plus it seems that AV and the mods are all good people who understand that shit happens, so treat them right and they'll treat you right... I've had a few posts deleted, but it's never been a big deal, cause most of the time I needed to shut up anyway....

Likely he saw that a person was banned from a forum post. It seems a banned person's posts remain, but they receive a lovely little badge of honor under their name indicating they are now on the naughty list. [last edit 6/25/2008 11:49 PM by CanoeGuru - edited 1 times]

| | | http://www.uer.ca/forum_banlist.asp If you don't have access, I can give it to you this way... mostly duplicate accounts, threatening legal action against the website, posting personal information, vandalizing locations, sharing account with others, etc. Why this occurs to a member who has been around for xx number of years, who can say? It's pretty much common sense rules. [last edit 6/26/2008 1:41 AM by Intrinsic - edited 1 times]
