Annual Hike into Burwash...

Fivepointsix and I and made our annual hike into Camp Bison on Tuesday.

This year, it was quite noticeable how much the building has deteriorated.
Alot of damage, nothing left unbroken...
It makes me sad.

1. Flooding on the road in.

2. Hallway shot - every year there are less doors.

3. One of the TV rooms

4. Pretty colours for a prison

5. The stage is slowly sagging

6.

7. Fivepointsix thought this looked like 'hanger porn', but I think they're cuddling.

8.

9.

10.

11. Little red door

12. Apartment #4 in the guards wing.

13.

14. Looking out from inside a cell

15. Door to one of the shower rooms

16. Exploring the basement by lantern

17.

Speaking of Camp Bison, a local photographer Brian Nori, created a virtual tour of it. Quite fascinating, even if you can't move forward.

Wow, that road really gets washed out some parts of the year.

Now you to can explore camp bison while on acid.

Here's a lockpick. It might be handy if you, the master of unlocking, take it with you.

Drove all the way in, while it was raining.. Thankfully we were in a rather large 4x4 truck.

That place is amazing...

I was there like last month on Thanksgiving. An amazing place to be. I rented a Jeep and drove right up to where it was flooded. I saw 3 guys there doing something but I didn't clue in as to what they were doing. Well we walked from that point and checked it out and it was amazing. I got a little freaked out as weird stuff kept happening and it was getting dark.

On the way back, I noticed the place was flooded to hell from when we went in. I noticed those 3 crapbags, destroyed a damn beavers made that was blocking the water from the lake or river that was beside the trail from going onto the trail. There was a good 2 feet more of water. I was pissed when I found out and had to walk past my knees in the water as I could not find another way around.

Well I love the pics and I need to go back but get there early in the morning so I have tons of time so check out the place. Maybe I will on my next trip up to Sudbury

Thanks

Did you guys even almost get stuck in that or was the trail under the water smooth?

The first river crossing (after the RR tracks) is mostly rock, and easy to pass. The second (beaver dam/ land locked pond) is rather sketchy.. We were in a truck that weighed almost 10,000 pounds with 4x4 and a few times things got a little nerve wracking. The worst part we were concerned about was flooding the engine but thankfully (as you can see in the photos) we were fine.

Mind you, we had more of an issue on the trails with the rain, and slippery mud.. Almost lost it into the swamp right after that long stream crossing, there is only about 3" off the trail before it drops.

If you have a 4x4, and at bare minimum good off road tires, go for it. I would recommend a snorkel/body lift if the water table is high.

Great shots Match Girl! I visited Burwash very briefly (about forty minutes) on the Friday of the Long Weekend, hiked the length (Drive a Cavalier...)

As for going back sure, but I'll want to bring horses for getting to Bison.

Love the pics. Glad you two had a great day of it. (even if some us had to work Tuesday to keep society functional).

I agree, through... the amount of destruction since our first trip there is incredible. As an example, I'm looking at your picture #5...

The damage to that stage is amazing compared to...

It's a shame...

Photo #5 is really nice; I still haven't made it to this place; judging by the snaps, I should probably do it sooner rather than later, ya?
