Oh, I can finally post now! Wonderful.

I'm in Maine from Portland to Waterville, typically. I can see the old AMHI and Arsenal taunting me from across the river almost every day I'm up that way.

Once I get all my pictures into one place, I'll share some of the old tissue mill (Augusta) that's since been demolished and any others I can find.

Looking for more exploration once the winter concludes, including viewing AMHI and surrounding buildings. Anticipate there could be some drains too that might be interesting, though I'm not as much into draining as I am buildings.

Have also been to some of the ruins around Portland harbor, most of which are "open" - as long as you can get to them.

Cheers, good to be here.

Hi Bob, welcome to UER.

Just a word of caution, AMHI is completely alarmed and has the same security protecting it as the Blaine House. Two years ago it would have been worth a shot, but not now. Some of the Arsenal may be doable, but probably not worth the risk of getting caught. You used to be able to walk right through the door of Old Max until some idiots went in and trashed everything, now that too is sealed tight. And yes, there are drains in Augusta.

I would be very interested in seeing your pictures of Statler, and I know some other guys who would probably like to see them too

Happy exploring!

Drat. Thanks for the heads up on those. AMHI would have been sad to be arrested in.

I know that there are at least 2 buildings that were okay to get in at the Arsenal last fall, but the others, I don't know. I just went in the found entry (laughable doors) but had none of my gear, so I backed out. Also, nobody knew I was over there.

Will consider other locales as well. Would love to see the Waterville Roundhouse again with a camera this time. It's fallen on rough times.

Will dig out the pictures sometime of the tissue mill. Amazing that it got torn down so quickly once they really started. Bam, it was gone!

Cheers!

Greetings all
I don't live in Maine, but I have a place near Brunswick and I stay there for most of the summer every year. As someone from "away", I end up going to Portland, driving up to Camden, etc... all of the obligatory Casco Bay area things, so I'm mobile a lot of the time I'm there. I'm not sure when I'll be getting up there this year, but I'd love to meet up with some of you and see what there is to explore.
Also, I drive up and regardless of the way I go on the first leg of the trip, I always have to drive through Mass and NH, so if anyone has any advice on where to look in those states, and even VT, I'd appreciate it. You don't have to give me actual locations, just point me to some interesting towns which might have conspicuous attractions?
Thanks guys, and the Shipyard is on me when I see you

No matter where you go, there you are

Nice to hear some love for a Waterville location. The entire train yard has been my quick go-to when I've felt the exploring urge for a while now. It seems as though the roundhouse itself has been getting quite a bit more attention from the powers that be now, though, since I always see cars parked around it when I go. The other sheds and the decommissioned locomotives are still a blast, though. =)
