Its because satellites take a long time to precisely photograph entire cities.

Well, it's been forever since I've been on these boards...almost a year, I think... oops...

It has been SO long since I even drove down near there. I was devastated when I first heard that they were going to start tearing down the buildings, and found it wayy to painful to try and go back.

I'd never known about being able to get into "hidden" areas of the basement though - WWII artifacts? I hope to high Heavens they saved those...

A royal shame that place was destroyed the extent that it was - would have made an awesome museum or historical site! I hope that's what they're doing with the final two buildings, at least.

I loved wandering around that place. We never got too far into tunnels or basements, but just looked around at the different rooms and hallways and tried to imagine what it was like. I love history and architecture so naturally that place was absolutely incredible for me!

I only have a few pictures, several years old. I wish I had more...

And in response to a comment made wayy earlier, they did change their name to "Ontario Shores Centre for Mental Health Sciences"... I think it was more political than anything!

Yeah does sound very political. I for one like the new name, but let's think about this for a minute. We all know that they can only put "shore" into the new name because of its close proximity to the Lake Ontario shoreline. Now if it were rebuilt somewhere else in Whitby, then it would be called something totally different. To be honest i thought for the longest time that the new hospital would be rebuilt somewhere else and the land would be sold off for housing developments. Especially with land that close to the water, you could build some pretty nice condos, houses or whatever and charge out the butt for them. Which by the way, you know people will pay...and after that your pretty much laughin' all the way to the bank.

The housing development that's going in there has an ad for the new houses, the funny thing is it's an aerial shot, and the company's logo is cleverly covering-up the new hospital. As if to hide it almost.

They're reasonably priced. I don't have a problem with it, my wife on the other hand...

It's these cookie cutter homes that are going up everywhere. It's not that i don't like tract housing because at least nowadays they don't all look exactly the same and have some differences between them. It's actually the contractors that build tract housing that i hate. If every house is basically the same and less deliveries of materials are required during construction then why are the prices so high? Being cheaper to build should mean cheaper to buy no? More affordable for people? Apparently not. The houses stay higher and allow contractors to enjoy the ridiculous profits.

I agree, give me a house that's got character. Much like the ones found abandoned here. I'll take a 30 year old well-kept house over a cookie-cutter new one.

well they would take the German WW2 Prisoners and Interrogate them there

Quite Possibly Paranormal events occurred there as it is a Mental Hospital and that is where they would take such people

anything else I have never really thought too much about..

if you find out let me know

WW2? Huh? I think you are confusing the Bowmanville POW Camp with the Whitby Psych...which had more of a WW1 connection.

Abuse of patients? I dont know, but these rings bolted to the wall of one building I found seemed odd...perhaps for restraining people with chains?

ww2 - 1 ok

Heres a tip.. think of Ye Olde Whitby Psyche as where Batman would take all of the Evil Criminals

Arkham Asylum.. but then they forced them to live in society and buy their own houses and adjust to society

It somewhat explains Whitby doesn't it? =]

now put those people in with Telekinesis and UFO's and Criminal Geniuses and the sort and it explains it even more

Wow the more research I do on Ye Olde Whitby Psyche, the more stories I find of strange goings-on to say the least! Whitby was also the home of Camp X where spies were trained during WW I and/or II. And yet, ever since I visited Family Kartways back in '88, I've wanted to live in Whitby!

P.S. Cool Pics, IndianaTeach!

Out of curiosity, I drove by last week and I noticed two small brick sheds on either side of Gordon St. near the old site. Does anyone know if these connected by tunnels to the old site?
