What if...

What if someone(like the security officer, owner, or police) came up to you while you were urban exploring and you start a conversation and you say that you are taking pictures. Then he asks, "You know you are trespassing right?"

What would you do?

I would use the search function on UER

http://www.uer.ca/..._search1.asp?fid=1

to search for one of the many threads on getting caught. Or look right below this one on UER Main, there's one right there.

I would throw asbestos in his face while chanting a curse to him in low mumbles. This should allow for enough time for a stealthy escape and an avoidance of suspicion...

The Durango '95 purred away a real horrowshow - a nice, warm vibraty feeling all through your guttiwuts. And soon it was trees and dark, my brothers, with real country dark.

I like that too...my usual lately has been throwing a supply of polysyllabic sesquipedalian mechanical/civil engineering terms regarding the structure at the officer, until it becomes clear that maybe the city does have some sort of benefit from my research on the location. It has worked three times in a row, surprisingly.

First, where did they find me? Inside the building? Outside? Climbing in the POE?

There are a million ways that conversation can go.

Personally, I'd start by playing dumb/apologizing. As for dealing with this type of thing, there are dozens of threads dedicated to it.

Perfect!

Play dumb if you can. If you don't trust yourself to fast-talk, then throw out a quick "oh, I didn't know" and then start with the apologizing. In my experience its much easier for most people to apologize in a believable manner than it is for them to play dumb.

I also took the 10th amendment once, correctly pointing out that the law the officer was trying desperately to book me for, besides my not having committed that particular offense yet, was unconstitutional: cities, as entities even smaller than states, cannot restrict navigation on otherwise navigable bodies of water, as that is a power reserved to the Federal government. The cop called the deputy, the deputy called the chief, the chief of police called his lawyer, and we were let go, being quite grateful to both be lawyers' sons, and to have done well in high school history and civics...

Go underground. You then have the advantage, as the question becomes, "what was the cop doing down there in the first place?!"

In his teens my dad (drinking age was 18) was having a bonfire party over the fourth of july out on a flood zone owned by army core of engineers but the town used the land as a park.

Well local pd and town officials tried to kick them off the property ... and he was like

"No, you don't have ANY jurisdiction here and if you don't leave me in peace, well that's harassment. This is federal property owned by ACoE...only they can kick me out."

The local pd did the hierarchy of command phone tag until it was determined, he was right, the local cops nor town officials could do a damn thing. The best part was is was the fourth and all government agencies were closed so there was no one to call to kick them off the property as long as they didn't destroy anything and they attended their fire and picked up their trash, no one could stop them.

If an officer ever asks you that, he's giving you an out. That's him hinting to you to play dumb, so do it.

the response, "I am? Oh man, I didn't realize, I'm so sorry. I didn't see any posted signs and I just wanted to get some pictures, I'll leave now though" will more than likely get you out.

Better yet, don't say you did know, or that you didn't. Just say "Whoa. I guess I better leave then. Do you know the quickest way back to the road?"

This isn't lying to cops (another crime), and isn't you flaunting the law. Its also a good way to get out of the conversation.

You probably should never admit to breaking a law. Then mr. officer has to do paperwork (you admitted a crime to an officer of the law) and you get an expensive ticket.

(Actual conversation)

Caretaker: "Miss, can i HELP YOU?"

Me: NO.

(five minutes later)

Me: ...okay, how do i get out of here?

Caretaker: How did you get in?

Me: ...I don't know.

Caretaker: You know, if you weren't a girl i would have called the police on you.

Me: ...Oh. thanks.

Caretaker: That way.

Me: K thanks. Bye.
