If there have been reasonable precautions made to prevent entry to a property, a sign is not necessary.

That's exactly what I was thinking...

I mean...

"Ooohhh that's why the entire sector is surrounded by fences and barbed wires! Sorry officer I didn't realised at first the meaning of all that..." Doesn't seems a good excuse

I suppose that if you say you needed to take a few pictures for a project or something like that could look good. Specify you didn't think you were doing something "that wrong" since you're not breaking anything. Ask if you can stay or must leave and do as asked by the authority who got you... Like rainman8889 said : to insist can make the situation worse... Just agree with him and leave if asked!

Of the twenty or so outings I've been on, I've never run into security guards or police. Once I was exiting a site and the people there, whoever the were, told me don't come back or there'll be trouble. I like to make sure the place is a safe bet before I go in but you can never be sure. Once I had trouble getting OUT of a ruin, and believe me that's a lot less fun than not being able to get OUT.
I feel you all as far as coming prepared. One reason I haven't visited too many sites lately is because I haven't had a chance to put a good exploring kit together, and I've read on here that that's the first thing you need in this strange hobby. As soon as the cold weather eases up round here (Memphis) I'll think about my next outing.
But yeah, whatever I say to Security in that event, I say it walking. They like that best of all. It shows them that they hold the roost so to speak. It's also good not to go in there cold, but to watch a building and note any activity for a while before going in. All stuff you find on this site. Peace. T.D.

Tread ye gently my brethren.

Or should I say it's a lot less fun not being able to get Out than IN. There we go, that's more like it. Peace on out. T.D.

Incase you didn't find an answer you liked. I would just say "Oh, I am? I'm really sorry I didn't know" I think that's the best way is pretending you didn't know.

A security guard is typically under orders to do only 2 things - observe and report. He can ask you to leave, but if you resist or run, the guard has a very slippery slope when it comes to chasing or detaining you.

What he WILL do is call the local authorities. That said, cooperation usually goes a long way. More often than not, being honest, mature and polite is the best way to avoid trouble. Tell them what you're doing - the worst thing that usually happens is, you are told to leave.

The above statements are vaguely true in America, but that's about it.
