| | | Last time i drove by high park in Toronto, a whole block of houses were boarded up. judging by the area, they are probably going to turn it all in to condos. Just putting this out there for anyone whos interested. its on Bloor st. I would go but I'm back in the far north for a while.
That smell isn't coming from me!! |

| | | There were a couple threads about this place last fall in the members area. Not much has been happening there since those posts. ...well that I know of anyways. I am only by there once every few weeks. Grotciv posted this link to a toronto star article in one of the threads http://www.thestar...er-own-environment I haven't heard much about this place since then. If it weren't for the close proximity of neighbours, this spot would be a good destination for the Toronto Meet.

| | | I live a block from there. It's an interesting story. The block is slated for redevelopment. There is one crazy lady with environmental sensitivities who still lives in one of the houses. Whenever she sees people snooping around the back she screams at them. The state of access to the residences is always in flux. Some of them are also REALLY nasty as fuck inside.

| | | It's strange to see a developer trying to continue block busting for modern multi-residential housing, which the city residents and certain politicians worked hard in the 1970s and onward to stop the trend. The apartments seen in the background in some of the photos were a product of that trend.

| | | Fuck that dumb bitch. Anyone who lives in the area knows she is renowned for being the neighborhood kook. And after seeing two news articles dedicated to her, that pains me. "MCS" doesn't even exist.

| | | Even if MCS does exist, I feel no sympathy for this woman. She wasn't the owner of the house and after the owner sold it, she lived there for as long as she could. Now she wants a house with 3 acres, etc etc....get a job!

| | | I believe MCS exists, whether it be a physical condition or a mental health condition. I actually felt sorry for her when reading the articles, I stopped feeling sorry for her when I read the latest article with all her demands for an "ideal" housing situation. Sauna? Gazebo or porch for at? barn? The fact that they found a house specifically designed for her situation and she refused it because it was too "Feng Shuei" and the landlord refused to spend $47,000 to build walls where she wanted them built. Wouldn't building walls contribute to her feeling? Wouldn't the mold and the fact that the current house she lives in is slowly crumbling apart make her feel worse? I think the case here now is a person who doesn't want to leave the prestige area of High Park where rent is expensive and where her rent is so cheap compared to others int he neighbourhood. Where else is she going to get a view like that as well as live in an area like that with her income? She doesnt wan tot move to an area where she doesnt want to live.

| | | I kinda feel sorry for her and her condition (be it real or mental), but they have been more than helpful in trying to find her a new location to live. Where does the line get drawn?
I guess, what, a new high-rise is going in that area? Commercial development? Condos? You can't hold back change and progress.
Keep it fuzzy. |

| | | MCS or not, she's an ungrateful person. Seems to me people have been MORE than helpful. Hell, to have a developer offer to buy a home and rent it so cheap is a deal and a half. Seems like the type where no matter what anyone does, it isn't good enough. Medical condition or not, she did it to herself. Good riddance.

| | | Wow, this thread got ugly. That article reads more like an editorial than an actual "news" article. I wonder if they wrote it as heavily biased as they did to side with the big developer who has just this one pesky resident with MCS standing in the way of a multimillion dollar condo development? The worst things about articles like this is that contrary to editorials, the readers take the writer's opinions as "fact" without questioning them. Youd be crazy too if you couldnt go anywhere without breaking out in rashes and migraine headaches. Youd also be pretty reluctant to move out if the only one available to help you move your stuff was your 82 year old father. Lets see, millions of dollars are at stake here. What do we do here: Do we print a fair, objective news article about this conflict or do we accept the developer's invitation to a steak dinner at harbour sixty and a nice fat envelope to go ahead and villefy this poor woman with fabricated quotes about feng shui and baby powder? Consider how well it's worked on you lot, Id say they made the right choice...
