MCS or not, she's an ungrateful person.

Seems to me people have been MORE than helpful. Hell, to have a developer offer to buy a home and rent it so cheap is a deal and a half.

Seems like the type where no matter what anyone does, it isn't good enough. Medical condition or not, she did it to herself. Good riddance.

Ditto.

She has a false sense of entitlement. I think she's trying to use this "MCS" as a tool so she doesn't have to move. I think CAMH would be the best place for her to move, she is obviously ill.

Wow, this thread got ugly.

That article reads more like an editorial than an actual "news" article.

I wonder if they wrote it as heavily biased as they did to side with the big developer who has just this one pesky resident with MCS standing in the way of a multimillion dollar condo development?

The worst things about articles like this is that contrary to editorials, the readers take the writer's opinions as "fact" without questioning them.

Youd be crazy too if you couldnt go anywhere without breaking out in rashes and migraine headaches. Youd also be pretty reluctant to move out if the only one available to help you move your stuff was your 82 year old father.

Lets see, millions of dollars are at stake here. What do we do here: Do we print a fair, objective news article about this conflict or do we accept the developer's invitation to a steak dinner at harbour sixty and a nice fat envelope to go ahead and villefy this poor woman with fabricated quotes about feng shui and baby powder?

Consider how well it's worked on you lot, Id say they made the right choice...

You're expressing your opinion as well here not based on facts. Automatically assume the corporation paid off the Toronto Star to fabricate the story. Before you accuse others of not getting the facts first I suggest you do the same. There are many people, agencies, and politicians involved in this case that have said she has turned down ALL of their options. They can be sued for defamation of character if they make false statements about her to the media. Four years EVERYONE has been trying to help her and they've lost hope. I agree, CAMH or Ontario Shores should be the next step, the woman needs help and she should receive it to help improve her quality of life.

Ive taken the devil's advocate position, the only opinion Im expressing with certainty is that this article was written as an opinion piece. Have you met this woman? Have you spoken to her? Do you understand all the circumstances surrounding her position? Thank GOD we have the Star exposing all the evil private citizens bullying the poor defenseless multimilliondollar real estate corporations who are just trying to make a million bucks. Let me quote you again:

Automatically assume---

that is exactly what this "news" article wants you to do. Have you any idea how hard it is for a disabled person to get appropriate housing on a disability pension? No wonder she's trying to come up with as many reasons as she can think of to hold onto her home.

Believe me I know how hard it is because I work in the mental health system, if only the majority of the mental health population has received even half the assistance she has received from various parties involved because believe me the majority of the mental health population doesnt even get a quarter of the assistance she has received. They get dumped on a waiting list for Long Term Care which they cannot afford or left out on the street.

The developer put aside, the house is in a horrible state where shes at risk of it crumbling down on her and even if they were not going to develop on the site, the house cannot even be worked on because of her disability. So developer put aside, one day Toronto Public Health could have easily walked into the house and deem it condemned property, unsafe to live in and force her out. Whether the area is to be developed or not. I know of an elderly person whom that has happened to and guess what? The individual owned the house and got dumped into a long term care facility against their will, house got demolished because it wasn't anywhere near fixable. DId this person have even an eight of the support this woman is receiving from many different levels? Absolutely not. Did this person have four years with assistance from people from many different levels to find a new home? Again no, because this person was old, lets just dump them in a long term care facility.

So again, developer put aside eventually this home would have had to be given up if repairs needed to be made to it cannot be done because of her disability. I would have taken the Feng Shui home if A) the Property management company lived up to their end of the bargain in regards to the affordable rent and B ) it's a safe environment made specifically to address the needs for her condition..... Isn't that better than living in a dilapidated home where safety is an issue and I'm sure the environment is not ideal in regards to her disability?

I've been in there a couple of times, only in one house though. Recently the boards of two other houses have been broken making them easily accessible.

There is more information and pictures here:

hmm Most of those look like they should Historic to the area.

I will defeat that which was once untouchable only so that I may now move on
