I want a 7D so bad it hurts. Why would you have sold your 70-200 f/4? I realize it's not the fastest glass in the world but it offers way better image quality than the Sigma 70-300 IMO. Here's my gear: - Canon XSi w/battery grip & two batteries - Canon T1i w/battery grip & two batteries - Canon 430ex II flash - Vivitar 728AF (old school flash mainly used for OCF shots) - Cactus wireless triggers (1 Tx, 2 Rx) - Canon 18-55mm kit lens - Canon 50mm f/1.8 (budget nifty fifty) - Sigma 70-300 APO Macro - numerous filters including: - 55mm Henry's C.Pol - 55mm Hoya IR R72 - 55mm Tiffen ND 0.6 x2 - Cokin P (square filters) ND 0.6 & ND 0.8 - Optex Close-up filters (1x,2x,4x) - Manfrotto 190XPROB Tripod - Lowepro Slingshot 300AW bag - Lowepro Flipside 400AW bag To be acquired in the near future: - Sigma 10-20mm - Sigma 70-200mm f/2.8 [last edit 1/1/2011 8:02 PM by Canadavey - edited 1 times]

The Manfrotto I have is good, but it's heavy. 5.6lbs with the head I have on it. If you have the extra coinage around (which most of us DON'T, haha) go for something lighter.

A bit old I know but I like the cut of your jib sir. How do you find the 24-70? It's the next lens to be added to my kit.

| | | For UE I mostly use my VTech Kidizoom Plus. I has a fantastic 2.0 MP sensor with and outstanding 2X digital zoom. Also, note the dual viewfinders (eliminates having to close one eye when composing shots) and center mounted flash. This little beauty is rugged and takes great shots. It also has on-board effects. Highly recommended!

The 70-300 is a MACRO lens the 70-200 canon is not. Plus I sold the L glass and was able to buy 2 lenses in it's place. My problem with the 70-200 L was that without IS, being that it was such a long ass, penis like lens, blur was a constant problem unless tripod mounted (and i don't like using direct flash(could not use camera mounted flash even on hotshoe, because there would be lens shadow everywhere)). I like the lens a lot, dont get me wrong, especially the internal focusing and zooming, but it just wasn't practical for me. When I sold the Canon 70-200 L i was able to buy the Sigma 50mm 1.4 AND the 70-300 Macro. Good trade in my opinion...

LOVE IT! (I just bought my son the Discovery Channel version of this camera and the picture quality was better on my cell phone eight years ago.)

Sure sounds like it was. I usually forget about the 70-300 being Macro, I rarely use it for that. It is a good lens although in my experience the image quality gets a little soft after 225mm. Given the cost of the lens, it does okay for me.

Damn car repairs and expensive text books ruined my plans for new lenses this winter break ... I cut it in the middle and upgraded to a tokina 35mm f/2.8: eventually I'll get a 24mm EF prime and 85mm EF prime but for now I can only afford one and the tokina won out. The next investment is probably going to be an LX3 whenever I can come up with $250 for that. Tokina 35mm (taken with my 50mm)
Samyang 8mm (taken with the Tokina 35mm)

| | | On any given day I have on me a: Canon PowerShot S50 - Old throwaway camera. If it gets damaged/broken it's no skin off my nose. Canon PowerShot G10 - My main digital camera. Canon AE-1 Program - My first film SLR. It's a beast and I love it. Pentax K-1000 - The most recent addition to my collection and the one I'm currently using the most. It's simpler than my AE-1 Program but more fun in its simplicity. I used to have access to my father's Rebel XTi before it got lost/stolen.

Wow, looks like a lot of money invested in tripods and mounts... Why not keep just one and sell the rest to upgrade that EOS 3???

I should dig out my son's Fisher Price camera that uses 110 film.

I am seriously considering this lens. Albeit it'll be a MF on my d60, I think it'll still be worth it
