Slide whistle down...

They say "you can't judge a book by its cover!" I say "YES you can, if the cover has a girl on it with a cock in her mouth, its PORN!" if she's 18 and the cock is black, its GREAT porn!

I'm not the most learned man on UER, but word through the grape vine has it that boarding a ship without the proper permission is some sort of federal offence.
Feel free to google it if you need to set your mind at ease before you head out.
You'll be glad you did ;)

If it's abandoned, then I would go for it. If there's crew aboard, then I wouldn't risk it. (might get Shanghaied and become the crew's Nancy Boy).

This ship is now a permanent break water for the marina. There's another example of this to the east, at the former site of Lakeview Generating Station, where three ship hulls have been filled with concrete and used to extend the docks along the water intake channel.

I suspect that the ship you're asking about has also been filled with concrete or some other aggregate to weigh it down. Probably welded doors/windows as well. That said, I've always been curious about it too and I think you should give it a try. I highly doubt you would have any federal penalties slapped on you if caught, since it's not an active vessel in the shipping industry.

If there are people on it, take them hostage and steal the boat.

When I first read this was a post on boats, I opened the link giggling waiting for the first 'Seaman' joke to brighten my day...disappointed. But alas, great find!

I've been down to those boats before (while looking to explore the weird old concrete silo thingys), I was going to say they are for breaking water. I didn't go any closer as there was a Hobo peeing off the dock and THAT was a fight I'd sorely lose...

Check it out and let us know!! Also - I agree with MonkeyPunchBaby - take them hostage, become a pirate! Yarghhh!!

Yea its the ridgetown, and it wouldnt be very easy to board without some type of boat / ladder combo. The gap between the end of the breawater and the stern of the boat is a good 15-20 feet, and there are lots of people on their boats who'd call the cops on you. an attempt in the day is going to get you in trouble for sure - only way to approach it is at night, and even then you need to watch out for boaters. I know of several people who've got stopped and ticketed by the coast guard / police boat patrols trying to walk out there during the day.

its owned by the federal government, and word is that nobody is allowed on board (even to repaint the damn thing - people have offered) because its now serving as a nesting site for birds they dont want disturbed. Anyways, I'm pretty sure all hatches have long since been welded shut, and the hull is filled with cement or stone ballast.

3 things came to mind:

1. "I believe I can fly..." off the end of a dock 20 feet onto a boat.....
2. Looking at your pictures made me starting thinking of that Titanic song by Celine Dion... My Heart will go on...
3. Once you mention 'birds', I must for love of Peter Griffin say "Haven't you heard? THE BIRD IS THE WORD...BA.BA.BA.BIRD BIRD BIRD....BIRD IS THE WORD"

Wow...3 thoughts in one day. I just impressed me.

Yeah that's the one
Could you elaborate on the 'deathtrap' part?
Easy to get caught, or easy to get injured trying to board, or easy to get injured after boarded?

Wow, great pictures!

I'm glad to know it's do-able. Would you need an "actual" boat (wood&metal) or would an inflatable raft be enough?

I work for the Coast Guard.

I would very strongly advise against boarding any active vessel without any documented permission.
