Sadly that particular vessel is now at IMS in Port Colborne, ON destined to be scrapped.

I work for the Coast Guard.

I would very strongly advise against boarding any active vessel without any documented permission.

Anyways, I'm pretty sure all hatches have long since been welded shut, and the hull is filled with cement or stone ballast.

I doubt this.

The nightmare corpse-city of R'lyeh…was built in measureless eons behind history by the vast, loathsome shapes that seeped down from the dark stars. There lay great Cthulhu and his hordes, hidden in green slimy vaults.

I was told that the Ridgetown had been stripped of all usable gear before being used in Lake Eire as a temporary breakwall. Bits & pieces had been removed from the engine room. Bridge was also stripped of wheel & chadburn. All ports, windows, and doors had also been welded over. Most of the engine and boilers were still inside. When raised and towed to her current location, she was again filled with stone, positioned and sank. She has a bit off a twist to her now, so we guess her back has broken. One local who ventured on to her decks calls her a gull guano bio hazard. We have been waiting for her stack to go every time there is a big storm as deck house and stack corrosion are taking a toll. cheers jack the lad

Photoseeker - thank you. Is the answer - A vessel? (I'm trying to be polite, I'm at work)

Short answer: yes, i think it would be stupid. But you should do it anyway.

I suspect a inflatable, rope and grappling hook should suffice.

I sailed past this from the lake side about 2 months back and now know exactly how to board her....that being said, its starting to get cold and the area is very heavily patrolled by coast guard and police boats, not to mention lots of nosy old white people with nothing better to do than rat out inquisitive explorers. The POE is probably just allows access for changing the light beacons, and I doubt leads to anywhere but the deck. the wheelhouse and all hatches are welded shut and while interesting, the risk is probably much greater than the reward. An attempt at this would be for bragging rights only
If I ever get around to trying, its not going to be this year....maybe in the spring

here are a few more shots from a return trip I made with a friend this summer. He slipped off the breakwater and fell into the lake lol

I'm continually amazed that Upper Lakes Shipping allowed their insignia to remain on the sunken vessel.

Easy to get caught, or easy to get injured trying to board, or easy to get injured after boarded?

generally if you need to ask that's a bad sign.
