| | | The ramp to the front door is collapsing and caution taped off. all POEs are sealed, but the lights are still on and at least one person was inside this morning.

| | | Hospital Security has added lapping this old building to their repetoire. I'm thinking this may indicate that the private security may no longer be inside? Anyone have thoughts on my theory?

| | | The building is being stripped in preparation for the demo that will see it turned into more parking lot space for the new PRHC Hospital. I've been in here at least 15 or 20 times now. Bummed.

| | | I was just there on Oct 7th for a surgery that was not to be (due, apparently, to a dude being admitted with 17 abdominal stab wounds. . . a butcher knife stuck in the 17th of which), and the only sign of demo at this particular building was the blue fence. There were still lights on in--and doors open at--the maintenance building. Wish I'd had a chance to see inside beyond the photos posted on this forum.

I return every few weeks for a tour. When the building is fully demolished and gone forever, I will tell the whole story from abandonment date to demolition. As of this minute, the first floor is gutted, nothing left but sinks and mirrors on pillars. 3 Caterpillars inside, Second and third floors are next.

| | | The Nicholls Building is just a massive pile of rubble, the power plant building is being gutted now, and will come down soon. No on site security anymore but hospital security have been asked to call police on trespassers. They just warned us. They also answered a few questions, including informing us that it is no longer hospital property and will not be converted into parking lots, as was reported earlier, but rather greenspace.

| | | Over the past 2 months, I have been visiting my step father regularly at the PRHC, where he has been battling Non Hodgkins Lymphoma. With every visit I explored Nicholls, we watched the entire demo out his hospital room window. Unfortunately, a few nights ago, that battle was lost, and just like Nicholls, my stepfather is now gone forever. He taught me how to be a man and raised my brothers and I as his own. He was a hero to many in his community as he was an AA sponsor for 44 years. Today, while preparing for the funeral, I returned to the site and took a crumbled piece of brick from the pile of rubble at Nicholls. I brought it home and placed it on a mantle in front of a picture of him. A keepsake of our final months together. Hold your loved ones close my friends.

| | | Thanks Floyd. I know it may seem strange to share this news here but it only seemed fitting. We look for support wherever we can, I believe. This isn't just a forum about abandoned buildings, in my opinion it's also a forum about the people that explore them. On that note, I'll be taking a hiatus from exploring and posting here until I get healthy enough to continue, as I have decided to finally take control of my life and get sober. This is day 2, and it's the only one I have. See you all again soon.

Best of luck (luck? effort?) in your quest. Ontario's abandoned structures will still be here when you get back, although many will have that white disgusting precipitation laying on the ground outside of them. *shiver*

I know what you mean, Jerm. I find the people here usually are genuinely friendly and helpful. I've also noticed that it takes a strange person to be interested in exploring, and its nice when we can all get to know each other a little more. Again, I'm sorry for your loss, and I'll hope for the best for you and your journey. Until you're back, your great photography and wonderfully poetic write-ups will be missed.

| | | Thank you Intrinsic, MatchGirl & Floyd. Here I am on Day 3, still sober and more motivated than I have ever been. Stopped in at the house of the hissing raccoon for a quick visit, the first time I've ever explored completely sober. Then we stopped in at the shrinking pile of rubble again.
