Piles along the beach are all that remains of the canning factory that burned. From the east end, a boardwalk leads past them to the mess hall, which has museum displays in some windows and like all buildings is sealed. An active dock with a view of much of the site is west of the mess hall. Next is a steel machine shed and some other steel sheds in fields of fireweed and stickers. In the back are some cottages, all but one of which seem occupied.

Grounds are open to the public, and there's plenty to see outside. Buildings are sealed; I saw one POE, but it was conspicuous and I didn't have my good camera. I loved shooting the fields of fireweed with rusty sheds in the background, and crawling thru the piles at low tide looking for ironwork. The calm water made for nice reflections, and the quietly active harbor was photogenic. Prince of Wales Island also has good kayaking, fishing and hiking; but it's very remote, and there aren't many places to stay.

The packing company had several salmon canneries in Alaska. Online information I've found is about other locations; but the colorful descriptions are probably typical. A local told me that this cannery burned down; and, for that matter, that nearly all the old canneries eventually burned down.
