the 2 sets of regulating works shown, the upper ones are still there but not functioning the smaller lock is the operating one, the lower regulating works was filled in for the dominion bridge assembly building, the lower lock is now the regulating works

the large regtangle church roof is the church that in later years was a sikh temple then it was torn down this year

A lot of people don't realize that the canal wasn't just about transportation. It also provided water and power to the industries downstream from here. The regulating works controlled the water level and the amount of water flowing through the canal.

exactly, the hydraulic power was used mostly at des seigneurs where 2 separate power canals exhisted, one north of the canal and one south, the south one powered belding corticelli and provided cooling to the northern electric

today there is a company Algonquin Power that operates a similar dam at cote ste catherine
