What was here before the lake? Was it dug for power or for recreation?

As far as I know, it was dug for the estates. It was just forest before. I could find out for sure -- my late grandfather dug it.

Just a correction. The area where the lake was not dug. The land was flooded, the trees were marked, and then the water let out. The trees were then cut. The stumps were removed by a bulldozer. The owner/operator of the bulldozer was my father. My father still lives minutes from the lake. I confirmed this information with him this past weekend.

Please check with the owner of the property before stating this. There is photographic proof of the lake being dug in the early 1960s.
It was a swamp beforehand, yes. The trees were cut, but that didn't make the lake, it was actually dug deeper. If you want to know if it's true, I can scan the pictures, and you can contact Mike Larkin.

I also can scan for you pamphlets from the 1970s, where it states that Lake of the Clouds had been dug a few years earlier, for the recreational pleasure of residents of the estates. But, contacting Mike Larkin himself would clear it all up anyways, since he owns castle glen estates and was a good friend of my grandfather.

If you wish to contact my father, he would be happy to expand upon the creation of the lake. He is probably the only worker still alive that worked on the lake.

My father can also provide a list of the workers that were involved in the creation of the lake.

What? And not have our blood pressures going through the roof while making total idiots of ourselves? C'mon Crystal, ya gotta get with the program! ;-)
All kidding aside, I appreciate the input from Sariss and bmoore regarding this lake's history.
This is a very nice pic and a very peaceful setting.

I just want to stare at this picture for hours. And take a rowboat out and just drift along.

Sariss, is there any water that flows into this? like a river perhaps, because if that was the case then you could swim in that with out the worries of stagnant water
